I currently use kodi and I have it set up where I have all my movies organized by genre. Within those genres, I have all of my collections (I.E. collection for action) organized in that genre section. From what I can tell, when adding collections in a section, it adds all of them at one place. I don’t want to make multiple libraries with multiple collections sections. This is the only thing keeping me from switching to Plex from kodi. If there is not a way to do this is there a way for plex to support NFO files so it will organize it the way I manually set it up?
I’m not sure I get your question.
Within Plex you can easily filter your library by genre (and decade/year, rating, resolution, director…) if you want to break it down.

You can also setup collections inside a library to group movies – this is mainly designed for franchises but you can also add your own custom collections. Some users e.g. have collections in their library to easily access movies by decade / studio / accolades.
As for NFO files – I believe there’s some 3rd party agents that support those.
thanks for the response. Within my action section I have my collections ordered in alphabetical order (ie. 001) bad boys, 002) bourne collection). I have that for each genre. Whenever I click on the collections section it adds all of my collections from all the organized genres into one place. I want there to be an action collection with only the action collections in that sections. Not all the collections from all the genres in the same place. Also from everything I’ve seen online since I wrote the last response Plex does not support third party programs that organize NFO and cannot read NFO files unfortunately.
What you call Collection is called Library in Plex and you can have as many as you like ![]()
(well… until it gets too confusing to navigate)
You might want to take a look at the support articles describing how you link your media to Plex and organize it there…
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/plex-media-server/libraries/

But maybe it’s even easier just to start a server of your own and use it as a playground to get a feeling for it ![]()
thanks for the response. I currently have everything set up through smb with kodi. The only thing is It gets tiresome having to update two devices. Plex would be easier and more smooth in that aspect. The thing that I’m trying to figure out with plex is how to keep all my movies on one library and then be able to choose the genre. Whenever I choose the genre it separates the collections into individual movies. I really want the movies that are in each collection in each genre to stay in the collection when I search by genre. Currently, when I search by genre it separates each collection and shows them as individual movies. With my larger collections (i.e. all the james bond movies) it makes it difficult to see each of those movies instead of one collection for James bond. That’s the way I currently have it with kodi using SMB. I have a genre sections (i.e. action, adventure, comedy) and within that section I have collections (i.e. 001) bad boys, 002) Jason bourne collection) and they only show up in the collection. They are not separated into individual movies when I search by genre. Is there a way to do that with plex?
There’s users who setup their major substructures as individual collections (e.g. for quick access of decades or genres)
From what I understand, Plex will show all the individual movies if you filter the library. That’s kind of a standard behavior you cannot customize. If that’s a deal-breaker for you, you might indeed be better of with individual libraries (e.g. for action movies).
