Hello,
I’ve noticed for a while (several years) that Live TV content tends to stutter (pause, start, pause, etc) after watching for more than an hour. For while, I thought this was down to the Plex Player (Android Fire TV) but the same phenomenon occurs when watching on webOS and even the Plex Player on MacOS.
Using ADB, I’ve gone into the shell and the culprit is com.android.providers.media.module which on Android “indexes, manages, and provides access to audio, video, and image files on internal and SD card storage” according to Google.
I have a 128GB SSD drive connecting to the USB 3 port and I’ve set the transcoder temporary and downloads directories to use this as my Shield has 16GB only. At the start of playing live TV, com.android.providers.media.module uses on average 25-33% of total CPU. When the stuttering starts, this goes to 90%+
I’ve put .nomedia in relevant transcoder directories to try and stop indexing occurring but I’m not convinced this has solved the problem. Is there anything else I should be (or not be) doing to try and resolve this? Many thanks.
