Live feed stuttering on laptop but not on cell phone

Server Version#: 4.55.0
Player Version#: latest on cell phone (Android) and plex.tv on laptop
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO
Guide/Lineup name: Doesn’t matter
Using XMLTV?: no
Channel number/Name: any

I’ve noticed that if I play live tv on my cell phone, I see it perfectly, but if I play it on a laptop the feed stutters and stops and restarts every second or so.

I have no ethernet card, so I can’t say if wired would make a difference.

Are you using the Plex for Windows client on the laptop? A browser will need the server to transcode the stream before it can play, cpu would need a passmark > 2000.

I’m using the browser, chrome in my case… and The server is on a DS918+ Synology machine

PS: It also happens (much less but still annoying) on a Samsung ks8000 tv with a wired connection to the network

You need to use the Plex for Windows client. The DS918+ only has a J3455 and even utilizing the on board GPU to do hardware transcoding for the video, the cpu will have trouble keeping up handling the audio which causes the video to stutter.

so no live tv, but I could record and play at a later time no sweat?

I did do a max upgrade from 4 to 8Gb of RAM

Not if your laptop doesn’t run Windows and you don’t use https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-desktop/1.30.1.2115-81e1fc3f/windows/Plex-1.30.1.2115-81e1fc3f-x86_64.exe

I suppose you could go the postprocessing route and convert the recording to h.264.

Don’t use a web browser. As recommended, download and install the Plex for Windows client app.

RAM won’t help if the CPU is too weak.

What about the plex app on my ks8000 tv? It stutters there too…
