Thank you this worked straight away got no issues. Thanks a lot
I updated manually to 3517 but my iPad apps don’t recognize my PR2100 such that they populate with my movies. The app now seems to see the PR2100, but no media is detected. The app also won’t let me manually enter the server address.
i have upgraded to OS5 on my PR4100 cant claim server
done all of the abov e but get this message No soup for you!
You do not have access to this server
what download tools yoiu using i used transmission before but not there now
Once My Cloud OS 5 gets installed on my My Cloud PR4100, I am assuming that Plex server will no longer be installed on the NAS, correct? Then I assume that PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c-WDMyCloudEX4100_OS5.bin would need to be re-installed on the NAS as a new app, correct? Once completed, does Plex Server then need to be re-setup from scratch? All the video metadata downloads, graphics that may have need to be manually installed previously, etc.? Basically a start over from scratch on day 1? Or will everything magically return just like it looked under MyCloud OS 3?
Thank you
David
I use Radarr Sonarr and sabnzbd. But they run on a separate Mac Mini for me.
I did my update a few days ago and it was successful with well some challenges.
I did the OS 5 update through the Web UI. Once it was complete I waited about 10 mins or so then logged in to install the Plex app from the WD Web UI. This installed just fine. Once that was complete the Plex Web page said there was an update which I installed (3483). I used the download link from the Plex UI which did download a file with the OS5 extension and no problems here.
My largest issue was the HUGE memory load for whatever OS5 was doing. I found some other threads where it was indexing my shares. While this was going on my PR4100 was having a hard time responding to the admin UI and the Plex web app was mostly not working. I was trying to copy some new movies into my movie share via SMB from my Mac and the share would just disappear.
I got a little extreme and I suspect a little lucky and did end up rebooting my PR4100 twice a few hours apart as I thought something got stuck. Yea that wasn’t the case as each reboot was ok for a bit and then the memory usage climbed back up to the 90-95% range within a few minutes (10-15?). The load on the box from top was north of 17!
Then with some knowledge from another thread I turned off the Web access to all my shares. This seemed to help some actually but still had a nice memory usage and the disks were doing something based on the lights for a while. The load from the box here was around 3 after doing this.
Now the drives are not going crazy but the memory foot print is still higher as of this writing 90% and I have no idea why. But Plex is working so I really stopped looking.
I have a PR4100 with 4-6TB drives and 4 GB of RAM just for information.
I have not tried to to the web access back on the shares I have never really used them before so I am just leaving that off. I also never really used the connect app on my phone so I am unsure how that is doing even though I did leave that enabled.
Just wanted to share my experiences to the group.
When the OS5 version of Plex Media Server is installed, it will migrate your old OS3 appdata for Plex over. So things will return to just how there were before the firmware upgrade
@TylerV76 it might help to ssh in and get the output from top or htop to see the full path to the running processes. It could be the various Plex Plugin Host instances running
The WD upgrade to 5.04.114 occured successfully, however, I appear to be running v1.20.2.3402 of the Plex Server app, not v1.20.4.3517, the app downloaded with the posted link of https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c/wd/PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c-WDMyCloudEX4100_OS5.bin?_ga=2.177619173.1320543720.1604223904-621019136.1604223904. If I try to perform an upgrade to PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c-WDMyCloudEX4100_OS5.bin, I get an “Error - Incomplete app download. Please check your device’s internet connection and try again.” My internet connection is working just fine for everything else. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I set the “Run App” to ON or OFF before trying the upgrade. Any thoughts anyone?
Thank you
Thank you, but not sure what you are referring to. Please see my update below…
Install the *OS5.bin file like you did OS3 apps, from within your EX2 ‘Install an App Manually’.
I have upgraded to My Cloud OS5, using WD PR2100 , never used Plex before. , downloaded and installed PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c-MyCloudPR2100 , Plex.TV opens but PR2100 device is not seen .
Help would be appreciated
OS5 versions are now live on https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ under Western Digital in the platform list. If you still have a device running My Cloud OS 3 then please use the Western Digital (OS3) platform in the downloads list.
What username you are trying for that ? Because the only username for SSH is sshd and then the password you are setting…
My Plex is trying to transcode something, by itself… and generating many errors…
Trying to reboot my NAS, to see if this will stop.
I am feeling I have to do the same thing, but I am not sure how to ssh into my NAS and what to delete. I have to claim my server again, but clicking on the claim button isn’t working.
Never mind about the ssh, I figured that out. Everything looks okay. I guess my only issue is I cannot claim my server now and so I don’t have access to it except from the config button in the apps screen. I am using a PR2100
Any one have any idea?
Maybe instructions to delete Plex from my PR2100 via ssh because its not working within PR2100 via the remove.
yes, no way I am upgrading my MyCloud EX2 Ultra with their new OS5 until I know there wont be any issues. I just spent MONTHS ripping a good portion of my muisc collection for my Plex media server (over 1000 albums so far) and no way I want to redo it all on the Plex side, even if the files are still on the NAS, this is just way too much work and time put in to screw it up now.
isnt there a step missing? dont you need to re-config the Plex user share on the NAS first before upgrading the app? as I think once the OS is updated from OS3 to OS5 the user shares are all removed according to the WD info/FAQ
