Just as a anecdote, I was really wary of upgrading my WD PR4100 but it was really painless in my case.
Had Plex all set up on OS3 for many years now, thousands of pieces of content/music/etc.
Did a back up of everything to my USB drive, then upgraded the WD PR4100 firmware…was a two step process (one new OS3 firmware, then to OS5).
After that, it showed Plex was no longer installed but I knew from the instructions the old install was still there. Grabbed the latest OS5 Plex Media Server build for my WD PR4100 and did the manual install option/link.
Right after installing everything was up and running like nothing happened at all. Didn’t need to change a thing. No crazy processes running either (I watched for a day).
The only downside is I was also running Tautulli from WDcommunity.com but that only works on OS3, waiting for updated packages…for now Plex Dash (Labs) still works so I do get some live/historical usage info. Good job Plex.
Would this be useful in my situation. I have 2 WD PR4100’s. Only 1 of them will connect with plex. The other keeps refusing. The one that works is set to port 22400 vs 32400.
I am at a loss here… I cannot claim my Plex server now. I am using a PR2100 and at this point I don’t care if I lose all my Plex configuration and have to start Plex from scratch seems to be my only option. I uninstalled Plex and ssh into my nas and the Plex-conf dir is still here. I have reinstalled Plex and still cannot claim my server. I need a way to claim my server again, or some how find away to remove everything that is Plex so I can start from scratch with it and without having to loose all the media I have already.
For anyone else having an issue, it looks like there was an issue in Safari when clicking the “CLAIM NOW” button. It did nothing. Switching to Google Chrome fixed the issue and allowed claiming the server. I am not sure at this time if it was a glitch or a bug, but I have passed along the info to our Web dev team just in case.
You should not need to reconfigure any shares for Plex to work. As long as you install the OS5 release of Plex Media Server after the firmware upgrade you should have access to your media. If you however wish for your share to be accessible to other computers to copy files to it, you may need to ensure the Share is enabled.
Updated my wd pr4100 to os5. update went fine. logged in and ran through the wizard. After that finished my Shares and Network settings were fine. I switched to apps which showed Plex. Ran it and it seemed to install okay. When I was able to select it, I turned it OFF to run a manual update to PlexMediaServer-1.20.4.3517 os5 version and it just hangs… wont install. I turned on my plex server which is working and running version 1.20.2.3402. It shows an update is available, which I downloaded again and still i can’t manually install it. Is anyone else having issues upgrading?
The thing I keep seeing is that after upgrading to OS5, people try to install the Plex app from the built in MyCloud app page instead of the one from Plex.
Just skip the MyCloud app page one, grab the latest OS5 build from Plex.tv and install that directly using the manual install link on the App page. Done.
I’m still unable to upgrade my plex server, but it is working. Should I remove the folders and files shown below and re-install or use the Plex app Uninstall option in the web gui to my pr4100? or both?
SSH connection using Putty.
/mnt/HD/HD_a2/plex_conf doesn’t exist
/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/plexmediaserver exists and has multiple files.
@rlevy795 You could try uninstalling Plex Media Server from the WD Web UI then removing any left overs via SSH like so;
rm -rf /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/plexmediaserver
Then download the latest Plex Media Server release from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ (ensuring you choose the Western Digital platform, and your downloaded file ends in _OS5.bin) And installing it on the device.
This should setup the server and if your existing plex_conf exists in /mnt/HD/HD_a2/.systemfile/OS3_Apps_Backup/Nas_Prog/plex_conf we will migrate it over.
Hi! I was able to update my WDEX4100 to OS5 and then grabbed the new Plex. Updated that too. Everything looks fine except all new video files cannot play on my Samsung Smart TVs. I get the following Playback Error: “The file associated with this item is not accessible by the server. Please verify that the file exists and the necessary drive is available.” Old files play on the smart TVs fine. When I try to watch any file via the Web app on a computer I see “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” If I open the share on the computer, I can play the MKV files directly without a problem.
These seem to be a known-ish errors, but the solutions I have found refer to settings that no longer exist. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
