Okay I am new to plex. Try not to kill me here. I do not understand it. I have installed plex and paid for plex pass. I have added my wife as a user, sent her an invite, she accepted, I shared the library with her but, on the Android app it keeps telling her she can only watch 1 minute. I thought that if she is part of the users and I have plex pass she can use the app and watch full movies or tv shows? is that not how it works? if it does then what am I doing wrong? if not then I can go from there. Thank you!
there’s 2 kinds of sharing…
Sharing with Friends
They have their own user and might need their own app activation (paid) or Plex Pass to use all the apps.
Sharing with Plex Home
Here you actually share YOUR account with a number of “managed users” – each gets a PIN of their own but technically it’s your account. Here the user benefits from your existing Plex Pass (no extra app activation etc.). However as they actually login with your account, this is usually only considered for your own home / family.
The link shared by flow above provides some more background on how it’s done.
So then my wife signs into my account but uses her pin and then it works? Mmmm that makes some sense. Wish it was the other way, add her to my account then she can use her own plex account.
she can… but then she can either only use the free apps or needs to overcome the paywall of her own account (e.g. with the 1-time 5$ app activation).
That’s not correct.
You can invite existing, regular plex.tv accounts into your Plex Home.
They will then be getting the same ‘Fast User switching’ and the free access to the mobile apps.
But they will be logging in with their own email and password.
