Connect to device is missing the plex server

Server Version#:1.28
Player Version#:

The connect to devices option has lost my plex server. In other words, before installing the newest media server player client whatever, I could pull up the Plex app on my Android device, and then play a movie on my TV connected to the Plex server. Now, the option to play a movie that way is non existent. I need to physically use a mouse/keyboard to launch a movie from my TV. I’m confused what the newest version of media server broke.

See the first release note for Plex Web - #389 by bengeorge.

So there are two different windows based applications both which seem to do the exact same things. Only one has the feature that was removed for some reason to allow me to launch a movie on the TV connected to my plex server from my phone. Makes sense…

Actually there are 2.

1 - Plex Web - This is opened in a browser. It’s also used to manage your server.
2 - Plex for Windows - Looks similar to Plex Web but does not need a separate browser. It uses a special video player so it can support a lot for video formats than what a regular browser can handle.
3 - Plex HTPC - A new program that has the interface similar to our TV apps. Meant for controlling with a remote control. This has lots of bells and whistles and intended for use when you don’t want to sit at your computer with a mouse and keyboard.

1 and 2 had the feature to be controlled by other apps removed. This code was really old and hadn’t been updated in years.

3 is meant to be used for situations like yours where you want to control it using another app. Please give this a try. As mentioned above, this looks nothing like Plex Web. It’s got nice large posters and buttons so it can be easily controlled while sitting far away.

Thanks for clarifying. I’ll give it a shot!
