Hello, I am a new user & running plex server on an HP Netbook w/win 10. My plex server has shown up on Win IE. MS Edge & more than one dedicated app. Just a little confused as these app interfaces player or server, all seem to function as both server & players? Just updated one: I believe the release date was around 5-9-2017. Can I or should I remove other instances of control of plex? Thanks
I am not sure what you are asking.
Plex is a ‘server’.
by its very principle it can be used with several different ‘clients’.
This can mean using the Plex Web app, running on different computers.
There are other Plex client apps which are specialised for certain type of client devices like smart phones, tablets, smart tv’s, set top boxes etc.
But management of Plex server is done through the Plex Web app.
Most players can be servers as well. It helps if you’re loading up say a phone for a long trip, and then want to watch the files on your phone on a tablet.
Most of the management of Plex is done through Plex Web (which can also be accessed through Plex Media Player).
I believe you are getting confused because of the Universal Windows App offered in the with does store. It offers the option to “appear as a server” for phones and tablets to share synced content to other clients…
Sorry about my delayed feedback to respondents. Got heavily involved in setting up & re-formatting through trial and error my server. Simple UI but yes…, there are variables between store apps & even different browser’s for Win 10. Thank you helpful one’s
Have 10 years of premium cable channel recorded movies. Task at hand is they are all mp2 files or ffmpeg. I believe they are called mp2 files. TV recordings originally from my “Snapstream Media HTPC” I had built many years ago. Plex player’s screen sizing doesn’t seem to allow one more customizable adjustment to display nice. I downloaded KODI to see if same problem. And was able to resize mp2 movies perfectly. However, I’m invested in PLEX! Hopefully I will be able to do the same …? ? !
PS… apologies for not using emo’s . I have trouble identifying with them. So please note that I am positive and all I’ve talked about was in an upbeat pleasant state!
Plex Player does have a “custom” selection along with 6:9. 4:3, normal etc. I haven’t found anything on how to format the “custom” selection.
OK… tks. I spent some time adjusting Plex Player’s Video settings in Server Host machine. Enabled hardware control & had good results even with an ATI display card. All 3 initial display settings set at “original” & are less taxing on the cpu. This sped things up, less transcoding as direct play in more desirable.
Apologies. … possible need to start a new thread before delving into other subject matter? I will research ninjas. …!
@KarlDag , yes… you’re absolutely correct. I had previously downloaded the “plex app” possibly from the windows 10 store apprx 2.5 mb’s! Whereas the official Plex Site offerings app size is > 200 mb’s. The latest official plex player app works nicely with wireless keyboard & remote. I’m using an old “Firefly” remote from an earlier HTPC , maneuvering menu’s with arrow keys & selecting with OK key. Curious to what others are using for wireless remotes? Have a few 1st generation Xbox DVD remotes, brand new, but the plug-in rx/tx dongles cannot be plugged in normal pc ports.
Researching knowledge based article about creating your own inputmaping (remote devices).
Was able to re-map vintage’ Snapstream MEDIA Firefly IR/USB Remote to work with current PMP. Buttons: play, pause, ff, rew and importantly a back’ button. ATI’s “All-In-Wonder” remote & usb ir receiver dongle working & interchangeable.
