Just installed the app on Xbox One. Set up account, ran the server on my Mac (Yosemite) and upgraded it to the latest version. I purchased a Pass, updated it. I can confirm that both my Mac and XB1 are in the same wireless network. I tried turning off secure connections, logged both the app and server off, then logged the server on and then the app, in the order the troubleshooting section has suggested.
I keep getting a black screen that just says “Library”. In the top right, I have a green light by my server name. I actually was able to see the folders from th Xbox’s own Media Player. I’m also able to access the media on my iPhone and iPad so I know the server is running.
I can’t think of anything else, it’s really a mystery at this point, to me anyway. I saw a spot to put in the path of your music library so I even tried that plugging that in, to no avail.
Oh, also I meant to say that I’m trying to get my iTunes library. I realize that the DRM Stuff probably wouldn’t show up (?) but I have like 20K songs, maybe 90% of them are from my own CDs. I also have several movies that have no DRM. Everything is managed in iTunes on my iMac.
There is no channel support (yet) in the XB1 application. What does http://plex.tv/web show you in the sidebar?
Generally you’d need to create a movies library and a separate music library. Both can then point to the appropriate directories on your server. Is this what you have done?
That is so confusing to me. Maybe Im just not getting the idea of channels. Anyway, All the sidebar says is “Channels” and “Playlists”.
I have access to all my music on my iPad after setting this up (not that I need it because I have iTunes Music on that anyway). I just want to be able to see and play the movies/music thats on my iMac using the Xbox One as an interface. I thought thats what the whole Plex thing was about…?
A seperate music library? That I dont get. I have 20K songs, you can’t be suggesting I need to duplicate this somewhere else… Isn’t there some way to have the Plex Server/Xbox One see the music and movies I already have from the places they already are?
OK, so now I see I have to manually add my music/movies. Its currently adding everything. I guesss it will take a while. I chose the iTunes options when setting up.
I chose Scanner: Plex iTunes Scanner
checked Import from iTunes
It started to add them but stopped at around 66 Artists. Not sure why but it stopped and I can’t add more that I see.
Also no photos, just blank boxes for each Artist/Album. Wait, I just chose "Force Refresh, and its filing out the pictures… but Im concerned, is this taking metadata from internet and overwriting the metadata on my files? I have been meticulous with my iTunes library and I don want this to change any of my files to show up differently in iTunes.
Im also noticing Apps are being added… i.e., I have the Accuweather App for my iPhone and it added an artist called Accuweather.
Having libraries in Plex is generally the recommended, and more supported option, rather than relying on iTunes channels for browsing your content. Having Plex libraries will not create a second copy of the media, or overwrite the metadata on your media.
I’d recommend you create a (Premium) music library, pointed at your ‘iTunes/iTunes Music’ directory. You can then select the ‘import from iTunes’ to get your playlists and ratings. Again, this won’t change anything in that directory.
