I’m sure this may have been answered at some point, but I can’t figure out what terms to look for.
My media library is on a WD MyCloud shared as NFS. I am running Plex as a Jail/Plugin on TrueNAS Core. When creating the library path I enter what should work(according to WD’s admin page) " nfs://192.168.1.7X/nfs/Movies " but Plex either doesn’t like this and won’t show me the folder listing or it won’t connect due to a user thing, but I can’t figure out how to force plex to connect as a different user than what’s logged into it.
From what I’ve seen over the years, some users are actually pointing libraries to network addresses. Personally I’ve always preferred mounting those shares on my server’s file system and link those mounted paths.
Shouldn’t the operating system the files are on recognize Plex as a valid user instead, and the files should have permissions that say Plex gets access?
TrueNAS is just that, a NAS, just like your WD MyCloud. The Plex Plugin works best if the files are stored on TrueNAS. I’m not exactly sure how you would make a mount point for the JAIL that has a network address.
Me either. I did manage to find a Plex app for the WD MyCloud device that installs and runs natively on it. It just serves up the files and the Apple TV4K does all the heavylifting. Seems to work pretty well, it’s just a tad slow updating the library, so I just set it to update at night when asleep.
