i need a LOT of help here. My daughter has her laptop, I’m trying to connect it to the 192.168…:32400 via the browser but every time I do, that it is requiring a Email login to continue, the server is hosted on an different LAN server. She has a profile i created on the server but she can’t even get to that point to selection it, it is requiring a email login with she never had to do before. How do I simply connect her windows 10 laptop to the Plex server to select her profile and start streaming via the LAN? All that is needed is the laptop to connect and select the profile and start watching on the LAN. Why is web browser connection to the 192…:32400 server requiring a email login??? Thanks in advance. I should just be able to hit the ip:port and then just select the profile, right??
When you log into Plex via a web client for the first time it creates a cookie on that device to record the login and preferences. (e.g. At some point an email, google, facebook, or apple login would have had to been done.) If the cookie was subsequently deleted (possibly as part of a cleanup of browser data?) or the cookie expired then the Plex web client will again ask for the login.
It’s possible something deeper is going on, but have you tried logging in again with the Plex email/password to see if it then goes back to just asking for a profile login? Also, make sure the browser sessions isn’t “Incognito” or “Private” - not sure what browser your are using. Incognito or Private by design does not read cookies, and therefore Plex web will always ask for a full login.
So being this is my daughters laptop and she has her on gmail account, and ‘I’ use my gmail for the server sign in. When i do try to ‘sign in’ it defaults to her gmail account to login and I can’t change it to mine cause this is her laptop with her profile. SO, again, this shouldn’t require a email address to get to the web browser via 192…:32400 via Chrome… when I enter 192…:32400 it then forwards to the app.plex.tv… Plex Web would like to sign into your account screen… with the options of Google, Apple, Facebook, & Email signin…
So if nothing else, what is the procedure for connecting my daughters laptop to the plex server to select her profile name and start watching… I guess starting completely over on her laptop would be a good place to start at this point.
Plex doesn’t assume devices that are on the same LAN as a Plex server should automatically have access without at least a first time login, and it does force a login again if the cookie is deleted/expired/lost - which seems to be what happened in your case. This is regardless of if you use the server IP:32400 or app.plex.tv.
At this point to login you can proceed one of two ways:
- Login with your Plex credentials by clicking on “Continue with Email”. The email will be whatever you used when you signed up for Plex and your Plex password (not your Google/gmail password.)
- Login with Google. After clicking on “Continue with Google” it should show a popup screen titled “Choose an Account” with your daughter’s gmail account at the top. There should be an option at the bottom to “Use another account” which if clicked will allow you to sign in with your Google credentials.
After you do one of the above it should take you to where you can select a profile.
I’m a bit confused… It have been while since I had to deal with all this… When I login to the plex server, i use my google GMail login… but you say I have another login with plex with is NOT the gmail account? I’m trying to figure this out my password with plex for that account so I can change it.
OK SO, I changed my password for Plex using the Forgot Password feature. I then went to my daughters laptop, I signed out of her profile that was in Plex… then proceed to use Sign In With Email feature (Not Google or Facebook etc). Once I signed in, I then closed the browser, then re-opened the browser and navigated back to the http:192…:32400/web… THEN it showed the profiles where she can simply click on it and start watching LAN Streamed movies… SO, the part from where you indicated about Signing Via Email i was not totally getting. This is now resolved… Thanks so much for you patience.
