Connection to the PLEX server on synology NAS does not work from Nvidia Shield

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 (NAS synology)
Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703 (nvidia shield)

Hello,

Since few days, my plex client on nvidia shield does not detect the plex server on synology NAS.
There is a yellow triangle next to the name of the NAS.

  • deleted temporary data and settings from the client application does not work.
  • Restarting the nvidia shield or the NAS does not work.
  • The association between client and server via my google account works but the server remains inaccessible
  • I manage to reach the server from a PC or a smartphone
  • SMB 3 is activated in my NAS
  • DHCP parameter doesn’t change (static IP for all my devices)

Can you help me ?

Thank you

Which version of DSM are you using ?

Does Plex running on DSM? Can you access the server from your browser normally?

I use DSM 7. It is the last version.
Yes i Can acces to my server from chrome on my desktops or from my smartphone (using chrome or Plex app).

Today, i did a Factory reset of my shield ans i installed Plex again. But thé problem is the same.

For info, molotov on my shield works good then then ethernet is good too.

I tried use wifi connections like with my smartphone. Same problem.

I am going crazy : same app, same network and it s does not work.

@sylv20

I looked at your Plex.tv account.

You had two dead servers there.
One of them is the same name as your current one.

I took the liberty of removing both dead servers since neither has been seen in 3+ years.

Now please reinstall the app, link it, and if PMS is running, you should be able to link up and go

You did well to remove the duplicate server.
I uninstalled plex and I reinstalled it but the problem is still present.

Previously plex worked perfectly on my nvidia shield. Overnight without any change, it no longer works.

I had this also on my samsung tv with the tyzen operating system. It worked and one day it didn’t work anymore. Suddenly I had deleted plex. Tonight, to try, i installed the plex client on my samsung tv and it works. It is really strange. The tv and the shield are in ethernet on a switch and the box detects the two peripherals but the shield does not detect the server on the nas while the tv detects it.

Out of curiosity , what is your main LAN IP range ?

Starting to suspect something REALLY fishy here.
It’s going to be EXTREMELY basic/fundamental too

DHCP From 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.70

I 'm not a specialist. Is the information that you want ?

My setting is very simple. A router ( internet provider box) to a Switch and All devices connected to the switch with ethernet cable except two smartphones and one computer who use wifi.

Does the NVidia Shield run on android? Could this be the same issue I am seeing with my Chromecast app not seeing my server that is also running on Synology? Chromecast Plex app not seeing server - Plex Players / Streaming Devices - Plex Forum

My Chromecast Plex App was working great and then it just stopped seeing my server. I plugged in a roku instead and it works fine.

@danorum

Nvidia Shield does use Android. They repackage it into “Shield Experience”.

Which version of Shield Experience are you using and on which Shield model?

@sylv20

Your LAN is simple indeed. Thank you.

I will spend more time tonight with my Shield and see if there’s any way to break it.

ALL:

I am curious which version of the Plex app is being used.

@danorum
This is the same thing for me but with my Samsung TV and now with NVIDIA shield. It was working great and one day, impossible to see the server.

@ChuckPa
In my case :
Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 (NAS synology)
Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703 (nvidia shield)

Mine is Chromecast versions below -
Synology - Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081
Chromecast - Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703

FWIW… in my testing:

  1. Side loaded 8.19.4 for my Shield, Shield experience 8.3
  2. Turned off automatic Play Store updating

This is where I’m at for another issue I’m debugging but it might help here too.

IMHO, we’re fighting two or more issues here. Sifting through it to figure out which is which is our greatest challenge

Extract from my client Plex log :

It seems that Plex can’t access to server but i don t undersrand why. All other devices on same network can access to the server and few days ago, it s works great.

I am experiencing the same issue with my android tv (Philips) and my symbology Plex Server. Triangle warning icon next to the server name and no connection. The server works fine from my iPhone and laptop.

How do you solve this issue ?

I have no solution currently.
Using vlc at the moment

@sylv20

  1. not being able to check for updates points to a misconfigured DSM system.
  2. I definitely need the server logs

Please create them this way:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Wait 2 minutes for everything to quiet down in DSM
  3. Start Plex
  4. Wait 3-4 full minutes for PMS to startup up and the CPU to become IDLE again.
  5. Now download the logs (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs)
  6. Attach that here for me please.

@Makalani Please provide the same if you would?

Hi,
i found my problem. You were on the right track. Indeed, the problem was in the configuration of the server.
Last Thursday, following a wifi problem, I added a device (via MAC address) to the static IP addresses of my network. Except that there was more room for me on the starting range 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.65. So I enlarged this range to 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.70 to add my device. I hadn’t paid attention but the shield was in flying address on this beach, it ended up in 192.168.1.66.
No luck, the NAS firewall was also configured to only allow 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.65. Suddenly the shield in 192.168.1.66 was found out of range. Cannot use PLEX and cannot read shared folders on my NAS.

In summary, be more vigilant than I have been on the IP range used between the router and the firewall of the NAS. not to change one without changing the other.

Thank you very much ChuckPa for your help.
