I have not noticed this till staying with family over the holiday weekend. I have to limit my streams to 4Mbps for remote play due to only having a 35-40Mbps upload. When I’m at home I’m always able to play original quality. When playing a file remotely and it’s transcoding to a Roku device the stream will randomly stop and buffer for long periods of time, play for 3-5 seconds, buffer again until the stream crashes saying there’s not enough bandwidth to stream the video. Sometimes backing out and starting the video over again works no problem. It will instantly start playing again and might play for a half hour to an hour until it randomly stops again. If I temporarily remove the bitrate limit and play original quality on those same Roku devices I never have a problem. This only seems to happen when the stream is being transcoded.

I do not see this same behavior streaming to Chrome, iPhone, or Android. In fact I have run parallel streams, one to a Roku and the same video on Chrome…both being transcoded and the Roku will randomly fail while the Chrome stream stays playing without problem.

Are there known stability issues currently with the Roku Plex app? I’ve been ripping my hair out for a while now trying to figure this one out. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Another thing I’ve noticed. When the stream stalls, if I just fast forward 20 seconds it starts working again.
