The symptom I’m seeing is the buffering loop with percentages start, then the screen flashes, then it buffers again, this can happen several times. Then one of three things:
- Playback Error Message
- Begins to play, but freezes in a few seconds
- Plays just fine
So far, this seems to happen ONLY when playing this particular movie.
FYI: My LAN has a 1000 Mbps backbone but the Roku Ultra wired ethernet port is only 100 Mbps. Switches are appropriately deployed.

Plex Server Log
Not sure what this means – Don’t know why a transcode would be taking place, It was captured earlier in the day. Now it’d have a bunch of library scans and stuff in there. These messages seem to happen when attempting to play this file.

Follow this link to see the log taken from the Roku. It is too big for the Forum.
The odd thing I see is Current Bandwidth at ~4.5 Mbps several times, then a much more reasonable ~80 Mbps. I guess that’s the Plex client on the Roku measuring the bandwidth back to my server. I don’t get why it should see such a low value but it would explain transcoding attempts. I have an NVIDIA card in the server that is more than adequate.
