Constant buffering every few seconds when trying to stream 4k movies to Samsung 4k tv

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046
Player Version#: 5.9.1 (Samsung client)

I am having trouble streaming 4k movies to my Samsung 4k HDR tv Plex client. It is impossible to play the movie and it constantly buffers every few seconds. Can someone suggest why this might be? Admittedly my PC is quite dated so it could well be the fact that the PC where my PMS is installed simply cannot handle 4k streaming/transcoding? But I would like to confirm this if possible. I should also mention that I tried playing the 4k movie directly on my desktop through the Plex player and again it would not play, it constantly buffered and froze. Does this again mean that my PC simply cannot handle it?

My PC specs are:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz
RAM: 8GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD7800 series

I also have fairly quick fibre, I get on average 67mbs/s download speeds and I use a wired connection from my TV via ethernet cable.

Could someone offer some advice?

Thanks

Check your server dashboard, it’s likely your transcoding trueHD audio to aac.

You might have better luck with 4K movies with either. A 5.1 or DTS audio track.

I don’t follow sorry. You mean check the server dashboard whilst the movie is attempting to play?

yes, if you have a slow server it will struggle to transcode the audio.

The CPU in your system is not powerful enough to transcode video. It will most likely struggle to transcode TrueHD audio. As @freddy_uk mentions, monitor playback via the Plex Dashboard to make sure both video and audio are direct playing.

Also turn off subtitles if you have them enabled.

With the Samsung Plex app:

  • Enabling PGS & VOBSUB subtitles will cause a video transcode.
  • If the audio is transcoding (TrueHD, dts), then enabling SRT subtitles will cause a video transcode.
