Constant buffering on Sony TV

I’ve been running plex successfully over the last 5 years. Over the last month using the Plex app on my Sony XBR55F900X with random movies, I will get a message that appears on my TV “your connection isnt fast enough” and a prompt asking me if I want to change quality. These movies are only 1080p. I’ve tried Youtube videos on 4K on my TV and it handles it with no issue. I’ve verified this with the Stats for Nerds section on Youtube to verify that the video is indeed in 4k and it shows the videos are playing at well over 40mbps. The one movie this recently happened with is on only being asked to be played at 24mbps.

I have tried everything I can think of to fix the issue including: rebooting server, removing power from TV and plugging it back on, checking port forwarding, uninstalling plex app on tv, updating server / checking plex for updates, flushing DNS on server.

I’ve also tried the same movie on a different device and it works with no issue. What is going on?

Hi @mattg20 , what device is your Server running on ( how is the server connected) ? I can /could well be the server is the bottleneck due to lack of ‘horsepower’ eg don’t try to convert on the fly on a raspberry for example . Is the TV connected fixed or wireless, these are the things you need to check first.

My server is a dedicated Windows 10 machine only running plex with an i7 running close to 4ghz and 12-16 gb of RAM (I can’t remember off the top of my head). It is hardwired into the router and broadcasting over WIFI6. TVs connection is wireless with excellent signal. Like I mentioned, I was able to stream 4K videos on YouTube without an issue.
