Constant Buffering on Xbox One

The only other thing i can add to this is that I too have buffering issues. If i play an 8gb 1080p file, it’s more likely than a 2gb 1080p file. I am running a high powered plex server over gigE, so it’s not the host. Additionally, the exact same file plays flawlessly on my firetv through the plex app using wifi and the same server as host.

Any updates on this? I cant watch anything 4k on my xbox one. gigabit connection.

quote, the problem is serious…

Also frustrated by random but regular buffering interruptions.
My content is all 720p and 1080p x265 compressed.

Same issue here. Seems so random.

Getting this too.

For everyone getting this, you can play videos through the Xbox Media Player app, using DLNA. You can open the app on the Xbox, choose your Plex server, and play videos. They play as intended in this app, no buffering, but be aware that you have to manually choose the audio track (if bitstream format), as it won’t convert it. Not ideal, but it works.

This has been an issue ever since they switched to their own player - when it used the Xbox system player this issue didn’t exist. Would like either a fixed new player, or bring back the old player (at least as an option)… I’m not sure why it was even changed.

@sad_muso @mbarylski Could you post the media info xml for problematic media. The more data points we have the better.

Sure, but honestly it seems to be just about any file. Worse of course with higher quality files. And DVR’d files seem to be the worst of them all. Not sure why, but ts files have always seemed to be problematic. Although, I experienced buffering issues last night when I was playing back Spider Man 3, a high bit rate 1080p mkv. When it started buffering continuously, I skipped back a couple of times to get it out of the continuously buffering state and it ended up crashing my server. It happened around 9 PM on February 11th. Posted logs just in case that points to anything helpful. Errors should be at the very end of the log.

I have the same issue (on xbox one) unfortunately.
The Plex-app on my smart-tv (Philips) has been removed/deleted from the store lately so currently I’m relying on the Xbox-app for my Plex-streaming. It isn’t really working though unfortunately.

The update today has some changes to the player that should have some impact on buffering behaviour. Please let us know if you notice an improvement.

@Moussa what can we do to help you and the team get to the bottom of this issue? It is clearly still affecting people months after the last PMS update that was supposed to alleviate the issue.

Do you still want more logs (which logs?) of the issue occurring?

At the risk of sounding completely stupid…

On the fireTV the OSD clearly shows how much content has been buffered ahead. It probably loads 3-4 mins worth in the first few seconds of playing a new video. Watching video on that client, as well as skipping ahead is very smooth as long as you are still in that buffer zone. Does the xbox client just not keep a buffer on the client or does it just not show that?

I believe the OSD of Plex on the XBOX would show the amount buffered, but it does not actually load. I can click play, and then I get “buffering” with a spinning circle. It then sits, not loading anything.

I also am having this problem, if anyone can assist. I usually need to cancel, and then hit play to get my media going. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all and I need to reboot my entire server.

This is what has been happening to me. Its infuriating. Before I found this thread I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what the problem was. I’ve been following this for what feels like forever and we’ve gotten nowhere. Are they just dropping support for the Xbox One? Because in its current state its basically useless.

Yea the Xbox support seems pretty nonexistent these days. So I bought a Roku Ultra which has way more frequent Plex updates and doesn’t buffer.

I just switched to a Shield TV which direct plays pretty much anything without buffer, and fast seek times. Too bad though, I prefer the xbox one interface. Might come back if playback improves.

This buffering is so infuriating I’ve just been using my Xbox Media Player app and everything direct streams perfectly.

The same files buffer every 30 seconds in the Plex app.

Please help I am having the same buffering issues. It often happens on DVR content for instance of NBC news. The files play fine on all other players except for the Xbox One X. I have disabled direct play and stream and it does not help. PMS is on a Mac Mini Server with plenty of power and hard wired to the sever Ethernet port.

It’s very confusing to me how they cannot figure out what the issues is here. I mean, it’s every ■■■■■■■ video pretty much.

@plex can I help send you anything? DM me please if there are logs or anything you would like. Let’s get this bug squashed already!

Thanks!

This issue and the subtitle disappearing issue on Xbox One is making me consider cancelling my PlexPass membership and trying something else. Extremely unfortunate as I’ve been using Plex for ages and it’s always been wonderful until now. My server and Xbox One client is basically useless at this point.

Serious issue. Plex are you working on the issue?

I’m no longer having any buffer issues with any of my content (even 4k) with latest Xbox One and Plex updates.

What versions do you have? Are you on the Public release of Plex Media Server?
