Plex has some serious issue with the Xbox version and it is currently being ignored. I’ve PM’d @Moussa but have not gotten a recent response
Here are the threads on the first page of the Xbox support forums all talking about similar buffering issues with the Xbox version. Some are wireless some or wired to 1gb, some have issues with 1080P some like myself only have issues with 4k.
Something happened in the last 1-2 months that has cause the Xbox version of plex to be a buffering mess and no one is responding to queries about a fix.
Here are the threads on the first page of the Xbox forum about this issue, can we get a dev to please look at this issue and work on a fix? I don’t care if it’s a plex or xbox issue something needs to be done to fix it.
Xbox seems to have always had buffering issues with Plex but it was working really well until 1-2months ago after a period of about 5 months of stable play.
This is a real problem and no one from Plex has responded in months. Plex on xbox used to work just fine and all of a sudden a lot of us are experiencing this buffering issue that doesn’t happen on any other system (that I know of). What’s going on?
Yea it is pretty ridiculous at this point. Xbox has always had some oddball buffering issue that sometimes get cleared up either by a Plex server/client update or an Xbox OS fix but it is always a moving target and always pretty random as to what’s going on.
I played back a 25 min DTS-MA 4k hdr video with no issues, then played a 4k HDR AC3 5.1 video where it was direct play for both video and audio and it started buffering after about 6 mins.
When it does this no network traffic is sent from the server to the Xbox, it’s like the Xbox is dropping the network stream or something.
It’s random files at random times now, people have it on a wireless connection and hard wired at 1gb so it is NOT a wifi only issue. I’ve also submitted reports directly on my Xbox for this issue.
We need some devs to look at all these reports and work with MS to get this resolved once and for all.
So can ANY plex dev or Plex employee please look into this issue?
I have worked with @moussa in the past and provided logs and sample files that reproduce the issue. But it seems no one on the plex staff will repsond to DM’s or threads about this issue anymore.
Seems they wiped their hands of it months ago and won;t do anything else.
Maybe Plex is going under? I just looked and they don’t even issue press releases anymore (https://www.plex.tv/press/). If you look at 2018 & 2017 vs 2019 that is very strange. Last one was in February
So there’s been a couple of Xbox OS updates and Plex server and Xbox client updates the the last week and the issue is still going on.
Direct play videos should not buffer forever, I can understand a buffer now and then due to bandwidth peaks but a video that plays fine should not go in a buffer loop after 5-20 mins of smooth playback.
Any movement on this? I’m having the same issue. I am really regretting the lifetime membership. Such a waste of money. How can an issue go this long with no input form the developer? Insane.
Adding my +1 here. After months of predominantly fine usage, the Xbox plex app is now a giant dumpster fire for me. I’m lucky to get 20 seconds of playback before virtually infinite buffering. Only thing that has changed in my setup has been Xbox and PMS updates. Just an utterly miserable and frustrating experience.
Also seeing this issue on Xbox One S, using wireless with speeds around 300 Mbps. My wired Xbox One X is fine running from the same server but is wired. Server is latest stable running on Synology NAS.
Really hoping for a fix because 10-20 minutes after starting something I get endless buffering. So disappointing.
Facing this issue as well. Very frustrating and annoying after having paid for a plexpass. What’s the point of a paid service if you won’t respond to problems we have with the app?? It worked fine months ago…now it’s useless.
I have Xbox buffering issues too. Basically if I pause or Ffwd a movie it starts buffering and doesn’t stop buffering. The only way is to restart from the beginning.
Here’s the thing if this was An Xbox or MS issue Plex would say so and support its(paying) users but it must be Plex so they wont say anything. Disgusting.
