Constant Buffering on Xbox One

Adding to the choir. My issue is that I can’t resume a video. Watched 45min no issues, but when I stop and resume it sits at a buffering window.

Same issue for me. Tried several different 4K HDR movies on my Xbox One S and some would not play at all and some would play for 30-40 minutes and then start buffering. After skipping 20-30 seconds playback would resume for another 30-40 minutes when it started buffering again.

I just cancelled my monthly plex pass subscription with the explanation “Technical difficulties” and as a comment I wrote that they should fix the Xbox app because otherwise it’s just worthless for me.

Recently upgraded my Plex vm running on FreeNAS now getting constant buffering on my Xbox one. Movies stall with buffering after about an hour and I have to stop and resume.

Live TV starts buffering every 10 minutes or so.

Switched over to ipad > casting and it’s worked without issue.

Can we get a response from plex please to acknowledge an issue?

This has been an issue for a long time now, Xbox is my main mediaplayer and this has to be fixed :frowning:

WTF… Plex please sort it out… just brought a lifetime pass… spent weeks setting my ■■■■ up and now the buffering time on XBOX is driving me crazy… how can you not be responding to threads on here…

Having similar issues but mostly limited to attempting to skip when watching recorded broadcast TV. Curiously I had the same buffering issues and high a cpu usage issue when playing 720 or 1080 recordings on my server. It’s not high end, running a i5 2500 Sandy bridge but had absolutely no issues with playback using Media Center. I was about to give up and instead tried the Nvidia shield. Flawless playback and server CPU usage is under 10%. Common links with my issues? Both Microsoft devices that are incapable of playback. Coincidence or common thread? I am not technical enough to know. I also see spikes in the network usage history of 140-150mbps when I skip forward or back and the video buffers.
I feel for those that have lived this for over a year. I won’t even attempt to play any high quality video via the Xbox. If you are new to Plex, don’t plan on using your XB1. It’s awful.

I had constant buffering (1080p h264 mostly), and switched off forced subtitles, and solved it, did not see any buffering in the last 4 days.

This support ticket raised Feb 2018. That’s 23 months ago. Anyone else work in IT that has a support ticket that old without even being looked at let alone a solution? Not really acceptable is it.

Preach brother!

I’m in IT as well and I would cease to be if I did some dumb ■■■■ like knowingly leave something broken this long.

I gave up on waiting for this to happen and bought an Apple TV. No problems with it so far. Really frustrating that this has not been fixed with Plex on Xbox.

Not a compete fix but I’ve found something that alleviates this massively. Delete the Plex app and it’s data from the Xbox completely. Reinstall and then if you have Plex installed on an external drive move it to the internal drive. Don’t change any of the video playback settings and test. Not perfect but much much better than it was.

I refuse to spend more money than I’ve already spent between the console, the subscription and server hardware. Buying another device for playback only enables them to kick the can further down the road.

I think I’m gonna read over the ToS and see of there’s any recourse for abandoning this without saying as much. If they’ve no intention of supporting Plex on Xbox, they need to come out and say it, but to abandon it and leave folks in this position is terrible business acumen.

If that is their route, I too will abandon Plex and switch to Emby. it does everything Plex does, but it **actually ** works.

Same issue here…

I don’t even think about fast forwarding as rarely will it recover and it just gets the spinning circle of death.

I actually bought a new router, even though I was already seeing 100+ mbps on speed test on the xbox one, in hopes that it would fix the issue.

What a waste of $160 that was…

Well fellas, my luck finally ran out. For unknown reasons, my videos now buffer forever on my Xbox One X… Plex has worked well for me, for years… all the sudden, I troubleshoot for two days (to no avail) and surrender to the absolute b.s. How is this still an issue? The buffer loop of death is real. I can stream from my phone, but anything through the xbox is not possible. Just thought I’d share in the misery.

I have a friend of mine that has this issue. The xbox client skips/buffers on his xbox one constantly and is defaulting to SD. Any one from Plex is working on this issue?

But but… the CEO of Plex Keith Valory said the forums are the best way to get issues acknowledged. Are you saying this isn’t true?

Hey @deactivated your boss said this is the best way to get problems acknowledged, yet yall continue to ignore this and another thread with a similar issue. Why?

Still having this issue exactly as described in the posts on page 1. I switch to stream on ANY other device, including a Visio tv and other low powered devices, and have no issues. I really wish the xb1 app was fixed.

@darcilicious You have any info on why this is still going on?

Was looking forward to Saturday night movie night but as usual Plex delivered on being utterly sh*te and buffered every few mins on a supported device playing a supported file format using supported video/audio codecs. One has to wonder where the actual ‘supported’ part of this comes into play. We must have some recourse? Has anyone looked into the legality of this even? Not sure companies can go around saying they support something when they clearly do not? False advertising is not legal. There are enough of us on here now that are angry enough to build a case against them. At the very least we should now be able to get some attention and spotlight drawn on this from the tech journalists.
