Constant Buffering on Xbox One

Lovely how there was an update to Plex for Xbox One 9 days ago. (Plex for Xbox One)
Yet here we are Jan, 18, 2020 with the same issues from last year.

Alas, something you’ll not see if you’re trying to use the Xbone app. It used to work, but now, if you’re able to start a stream, it stops communicating with the server in intervals of 15min or less and stops playing.

I have to transcode down to 8mbit on my Samdung TV because it freezes periodically on higher bit rate content, but it still works!

It makes no sense that a newer OS(Tizen) would have a better working app and support than the Xbone that runs Windows 10.

According to Xbox Insider staff on reddit it was supposed to be fixed after their fix with a fixed update from plex

Don’t think this has happened but it means that after it was being tracked as a windows issue in the xbox os it is now back with plex

My god buffering is unbearable lately. Does anyone have any kind of workaround, anything to make it usable?! Jesus Video has been around since 1956 and it played better then than Plex are able to do in 2020.

Is anyone here in the Xbox insider program and have the alpha ring build installed? If not, then we’ll need to wait until our consoles get that specific update to try. Alpha ring can be out for months before it gets through all the rings and then released.

I only use Plex for HD TV recordings (no 4k) and have found the workaround (disabling direct play only) to eliminate most of my playback buffering. As long as I let media playback for 30 secs or do before skipping around and avoid using the 10 min skip entirely, things are pretty snappy. However doing either of these will usually result in a non recoverable buffering state where I need to restart playback from the beginning as even exiting and resuming will not work.

Live TV is still unusable the last I tried, however…

@TheNightFox Agree with @beggehorn Disabling direct play works for me and I use it for 4k content. I don’t get buffering unless I try to skip immediately after playback, and I still get 4k HDR output.

I’m Alpha ring and the issue has been going on for over 2 years, At one point in the spring of this year the issue was fixed probably for 2-4 months. Then something happened which caused the buffer bug again and here we are still bugging Plex and Xbox devs to fix it.

Couldn’t even watch Seinfeld last night because of this bug, worst night ever

So glad I didn’t buy a Roku as a solution like so many ā€˜helpful’ users have suggested. Looks like they’ve now screwed that up too

I have found a solution…dump the Xbox Plex app and go to Kodi with Plex add on…it works…I have watched several movies with high bit rates and NONE gave me the circle of death…I have 5 Xbox one units in my house and have run the simultaneously with no problems. .I have the plugin setup to launch when Kodi runs…it takes it a sec…but a acceptable since now I don’t have to deal with the buffer issues

The issue with the Kodi plug in on the Xbox is it does not support HDR

Ahh…well I do not use Plex HDR
.so I missed that…my big thing was I couldn’t play anything before…and emby app way the same…Kodi is the only player that has 0 playback issues

It would just be good for plex and MS to fix the native client, ridiculous it has been broken this long

The only way to get consistent playback I’ve seen is to use the Plex add in on kodi. Apparently you lose hdr though

I’d very much like this to be fixed but that’s the low frustration option right now

I keep checking back in here to see if the official client is fixed but there is never an answer

I’m not holding my breath for an answer, much less a fix.

I’ve pinged Xbox devs on reddit and @Moussa here yet again to get an update, no word from anyone. The amount of time and effort some of us have spent to try and get the devs to fix this issue is ridiculous

Seems that all clients now except for Nvidia Shield are experiencing the same thing so Plex can no longer blame Microsoft. Reports of ATV, Roku and PS versions being just as bad as Xbox with the constant buffering. As a test I’ve setup Kodi and Emby on Xbox One, both play flawlessly (4K included) so again Plex cannot blame Microsoft. I wonder what it takes to get this company to support their product?!

Interesting that pretty much all platforms except the Shield are now experiencing buffering issues. Then Plex start pushing sales for the Shield. Coincidence?

Past few days I’ve had consistent stuttering on my Xbox X. Switched over to the PS4 Pro and the there is no stuttering. I left the Alpha Ring to get rid of the stuttering and it’s been fine for months.

I literally bought an Nvidia Shield and haven’t turned on my X-Box in months.
