Constant buffering while playing a 4K x265 @23Mbps?

Hi all, I just upgraded from Roku Stick to Roku Premiere.

I am trying to play a 23Mbps 4K h265 movie but keep getting buffering.

My server PC has a Ryzen 5 2600 @4.2GHz with 16GB of RAM, so I highly doubt it’s the problem.

Furthermore, I have a Roku Premiere. So logically, I shouldn’t experience any buffering right ?

I tried playing around in my Plex settings on my Roku but no luck. It will sometimes play smoothly for 5 minutes then buffer.

What are settings that I could possibly tweak to achieve smooth performance ?

I tried Direct Play but that doesn’t seem like it helped.

I also tried both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on my Roku, figured that 5Ghz would probably be better and tested every single channel to test which one had the best speeds to my Roku.

Thank you all in advance !

For reference, here are my Plex Server Settings in “Transcoding”

If the file is being transcoded, your CPU is just at the edge of being able to support that file. Will need to see your PMS logs to confirm.

Might want to set the transcoder quality to not make my cpu hurt. Your cpu seems like it should handle that file just do note x265 (hevc) take a lot more cpu than h264. Roku should be direct playing that file if you selected Original quality in the roku plex settings. 5ghz should be better than most 2.4 but it depends on distance and walls (5ghz does not go through walls as easily and less range but it needed for high quality files). I assume you do not have the premiere plus with wireless ac but are trying this on wireless n? If so wireless n will suck a lot more than wireless ac for speed.
