Constantly get kicked-out of remote access to my Plex server while on vacation

This has happened more than once and it is VERY annoying:

  • My remote access is set-up correctly
  • I leave my computer on (where my Plex server is installed) and ensure its settings don’t allow it to sleep/hibernate or do any Windows installs
  • I’m able to remotely access my content via my Plex App (on tablet) plus on my computer (web access) for a few days. Then it loses connection.
  • I’m away for over a week, so can’t access the computer where the server is.
  • I finally get home and see that I have either been kicked-out of my Plex account (so need to log in) with the Plex server shut down…and don’t know why, or everything seems fine, but there is a notifaction of a new server version to donnload and install.
What’s up folks at Plex? Why does this happen all the time?

I also get this message sometimes when trying to launch web access directly from the Plex Media Server icon: “” So, I hope that your maintenance tasks don’t screw up our ability to access our content when away (remotely).

It would be great to get some fix or closure to this issue. Thank you!

This is the url address for the times I get the above maintenance error message when trying to launch web access directly from my media server:

Mod Edit: remove url with Plex token

This is that error message since it did not take the text in the original post.

I haven’t had that problem but a good remote desktop app can at least let you fix your Plex server while you are away. I’m a big fan of Jump Desktop.

It means the server performed a software update and is adapting it’s internal database file to the necessary changes for the new version.
It is a good idea to not let your server do update itself while being away.
Set the updates to “ask” instead of “automatic”.

If this message appears at every server start now, your database is damaged and needs urgent repair. Otherwise you may lose it completely.
