Content recorded via PlayOn TV shows as “Power Play (1998)” metadata in Plex. I have tried moving to a different library, renaming the show directory, resetting agent to The TVDB, unchecking view thumbnails and I always get broken metadata. Star Trek Discovery from CBS and Black Lightning from the CW are a few examples. I have check individual files naming, seasons and the embedded metadata and it just seems like the agents read the first few frames with the copyright warning preamble from PlayON TV amd never look at the file name or the actual metadata.
let’s try it once more by being super-precise about the naming…
PVR > Black Lightning (2018) > Season 01 > Black Lightning (2018) - S01E01.mp4
PVR > Black Lightning (2018) > Season 01 > Black Lightning (2018) - S01E02.mp4
PVR > Black Lightning (2018) > Season 01 > Black Lightning (2018) - S01E03.mp4
PVR > Black Lightning (2018) > Season 01 > Black Lightning (2018) - S01E04.mp4
This means adding the year to the show name and in the episode file names, as well as changing the folder to a 2-digit number.
When done, re-scan your library and see if it’ll recognize the updates.
otherwise do the Plex dance… (move the show folder outside the PVR folder, re-scan your library, empty trash, clean bundles, move the folder back, re-scan).
your file names aren’t totally bad… I just want to rule out if there’s any conflict e.g. with the “Ep.” segments throwing the scanner/agent off?!
Looks like it was the (Ep.xxx) file name suffix that was causing the issue, technically did not need to add the (year) but in a later re-scan I included to be complete. I need to report this to PlayON TV as they do not name content compatible with Plex.
Thank You
If you want to keep the additional information in your file names, you might try to put them into square brackets. Those segments are then supposed to be ignored by the Plex scanner.
