When I launch the Plex app on my Nvidia Shield, the Continue Watching row frequently doesn’t appear on the home screen. I have to navigate to a library and view the library contents, then go back to the home screen to see the Continue Watching row. It’s hard to correlate this to anything, but I’m starting to think it happens upon first use after the Plex app is auto-updated on the Shield.
Running the most current beta app: 8.23.1.28030-beta
And the most current server beta: 1.24.3.5033
That said, the problem has happened across multiple app and server releases. I can send logs the next time it happens.
Can confirm this still happens, often the continue watching row will flash and disappear upon starting the app on Nvidia Shield.
To fix you have to go into another tab (left menu) and back to home tab. At which point sometimes it will appear and stay and other times you have to do this a few times as it will again only flash and disappear.
Even when it then appears and you click select (to go onto the home tab) it will jump to the row below continue watching. This makes the screen jump one row down which is jarring.
Also it would help if there was a visual cue that there is another row available above the one you’re on, as there isn’t at the moment.
Hope this gets resolved soon as it is getting increasingly frustrating to deal with.
I’ve experienced this bug for quite some time. There are so many frustrating bugs in the Shield client, and little or no sense that anyone is working on them. The last update was over two months ago. Very disappointing!
I’m also using a Shield and while I have my problems with the plex app on android I don’t have this issue and continue watching works well.
Do you know if this only happens for you on the shield or if it happens on other clients also (web for example). If its only happening on the shield have you tried clearing the plex apps cache and data along with a full reset of all customizations within the app itself. If its also happening via the web client you could also try and reset customizations from within your libraries. This is done via the settings on your plex server.
Thanks for the suggestions. I pretty much only use my Shield. I have a Roku, the LG client for my TV, and the Xbox client, but I rarely use any of those unless I have an unavoidable problem with the Shield. While I’ve not seen this particular problem on any other client, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I’ve never seen it on the web client.
It happens only occasionally on the Shield (maybe once a week), and I haven’t tied it to anything in particular. At one point I thought it was happening upon the first launch of the app after an automatic app update had taken place, but I haven’t verified that conclusively.
Whenever I have a weird, mostly unrecoverable problem with Plex on the Shield (rare), I will clear the app cache and data. I don’t remember trying that when I experience this particular problem, because there is a less painful way to make the problem go away (i.e., going into a library, doing something, and going back to the home screen will generally get the continue watching row to reappear).
