I just found this thread because I have the same problem and had opened a thread myself (https://forums.plex.tv/t/problems-with-direct-play-when-using-subtitles-on-a-variety-of-devices/). I was able to narrow down the problem to the extent that this problem occurred between version “1.32.1.6999-91e1e2e2c” and “1.32.2.7100-248a2daf0”.
