Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

increase the clip to 10 minutes and see if that fails

So the 5 and 10 minute trims worked. I also decided to try 20, 30, 40 trims and those DID NOT work.
I’ve also noticed that the Plex server seems to restart a lot. This is on a Shield Pro. I have a regular Shield that I don’t have PMS enabled on that I’m going to try and see how that works. On a regular Linux server, I don’t have any issues except that the transcoding is much slower, but it works. I’m attaching the latest logs.

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-07-02_09-57-22.zip (4.5 MB)

Are these covered by the logs ? I am not at my pc so cannot check.
Could you get me the smallest file that is covered by these logs. Please upload to Dropbox or similar service And send me link by private message

Also please let me know exactly which Shield model it is and what version of software

I PM’ed you the small file yesterday, let me know if that worked.
It’s a Shield Pro, using the built-in drive.
PMS version is 1.13.3.5208
The logs should cover them. The filenames were ShooterTrimmed10, ShooterTrimmed20, etc

I thought that was a 5-minute file and you did say

So the 5 and 10 minute trims worked

I need definitive statement as to what you gave me.

I am not going to refer to the development team a file that you said did not cause a failure and as I am on holiday at the moment with my broadband through a 3G/4G hotspot on my iPhone, I am not going to download the file to find out if it is 5 Min or 20 Min

You said after you sent me the file link that

I also decided to try 20, 30, 40 trims and those DID NOT work

I take not work to mean sync transcoding failed.

My question was which of these 20, 30, 40 Min trimmed files are covered by the latest set of logs you provided and I need the smallest of these 3 files that is covered by the logs

OK thank you - got that now. I should read every word

Just checked the link you sent me
It goes to a google drive page which has ShooterTrimmed.ts and selecting detail it says 488Mb

I cannot see ShooterTrimmed20.ts - that would be the file I would refer the link to, I cannot try it myself so will just pass your link on

Thanks @miguelt678 for the 20 minute sample and new logs. The logs as before show the transcode session being killed 5 minutes after start

It is being passed to the development team to reproduce using the sample - please could you leave the file there as i will be passing on the link for the ShooterTrimmed20.ts file

Could you tell me if your Nvidia Shield had the Nvidia Oreo update ? and if so, were these failures arising before the update?

Ok I’ll leave the samples up.
This started happening before the update, which led me to sign up for the Shield Preview Program in hopes of it being fixed. It wasn’t :slightly_smiling_face:
I’m temporarily running PMS on a server machine while on vacation so if there’s anything you need me to try, even if it’s destructive, on the Shield, I’m here to help.

Could you tell me what you have in server settings on the Nvidia Shield for the following:

Transcoder - Maximum simultaneous video transcode
Network - Remote streams allowed per user
Remote Access - Limit remote stream bitrate

Please see my answers in bold below

Thank you - I missed one. Please could i have what this is set to

Settings / server / remote access - Internet upload speed

It’s blank.

Hi, is there any news on this issue ? My main Plex server is on my Nvidia Shield and I haven’t been able to use Optimize or Sync because of this.

Same here. This problem exists for months now.

Swith off HW transcoding.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, yes I know about that workaround but it’s not exactly a solution, as mentioned before it makes transcoding incredibly slow and I was actually asking about a fix for the underlying problem, not a temporary workaround.

The diagnostics provided by @miguelt678 have been passed to the development team. I would suggest providing similar diagnostics to establish if it is the same issue

Having similar issues on my Nvidia Shield Tv running Plex PMS. Any movie or tv shows that needs to be transcoded will fail within roughly 10-20 minutes with a buffering sign stuck on the screen until I either exit the app or restart my Nvidia Shield Tv. Direct play content plays fine without a problem 100%. But as soon as something needs to be transcoded, It’ll fail 100% with the first half hour.

=Removed Log=

Transcoder - Maximum simultaneous video transcode (Unlimited)
Network - Remote streams allowed per user (Unlimited)
Remote Access - Limit remote stream bitrate (8 Mbps 1080p)
Settings / server / remote access - Internet upload speed (18 Mbps)

Don’t think it is the same. I do not see any hang
Playback was going on

up to 20:38:10 when the server on the nVidia Shield got restarted.
Did you do that or did it shutdorn and restart itself ?
