Conversion Failed. Transcoder Exited due to an error

Hi guys,

Long time plex user, first need to come onto forums as it really has been no issues so far. PS4 Pro - PMS on Win10 PC.

This evening, new film giving me ‘Conversion failed. Transcoder exited due to an error’ issue. PMS Version 1.13.5.5291. Only error for single film, will play fine, no streaming issues for 1-6mins and then error message. Changed streaming quality (original - 10mb - 8mb etc) to no effect. Did all the Plex optimise libraries / clean bundles etc, no luck. All other films / tv programs working fine, with same video / audio encodings. I am however, no expert!

I’ve even gone so far as to reinstall PMS to no avail.

Same here, i’m considering deleting and installing previous version?

Glad to hear someone else having the issue (well, sort of!)

No response from Plex on FB for this issue either. Not entirely sure how I’d go about installing a previous version - do advise please if that’s the fix!

Do these forums not have Plex staff replying to issues ?

Without logs I can only assume you are experiencing an issue with the Transcoder that is caused by a recent Windows 10 Update. Microsoft has released two patches since the update that caused the problem.

Please verify you have the following Windows Updates installed:
July 10, 2018 - KB4338819 (OS Build 17134.165) - which introduced the issue

July 16, 2018 - KB4345421 (OS Build 17134.167) - First fix

July 24, 2018 - KB4340917 (OS Build 17134.191) - Second update Microsoft released fixing issues

I am new to this and this I keep getting this error since I updated to the newest version of 1.13.8.5395. When I play TV shows, no problem, but any movies I am getting this error and I do not know why (for both new and previously owned videos). The zip for my data logs is attached if someone could help me decipher it.

I’m having this issue A LOT. It’s driving me nuts. I’m running plex server 1.14.1.5488, Windows 10 64 bit 1809 with the latest updates, and playing my movies through Xbox One X with all the updates.

I wasn’t getting this problem until 1 week ago. My latest windows updates were KB4483235 (december 24) and KB2538242 (december 29).

I don’t remember if i updated plex media server in the meantime. I can’t install an older version, because i can’t find an older installation file. I am stuck with 1.14.1.5488 .

I attached a log file right after trying to watch a movie, when this issue occured at least 3 times. I actually made it, but it was annoying with the xbox app closing so many times.

I installed a new antivirus recently (McAfee). I will try deinstall it and see if it fix. I already whitelist many plex files, so i dunno it has anything to do with it.

Just like to inform that, after uninstalling McAfee antivirus software, plex have been working flawlessly. No issue after that. McAfee software has a firewall that was blocking some important connections, i guess.

Hi All, I’m experiencing this issue also, “Conversion failed. the transcoder exited due to an error” however I’m using FreeNAS-11.2-U3 with PMS 1.12.2.4929-amd64. The error is displayed on my Sony TV so its not a Windows related problem. This is pretty much my first issue with using Freenas but my skill set with Freenas is basically zero. Any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
