Convert Shield external HDD from internal to removable without losing data

Plex Server on Nvidia Shield with 2tb external HDD

I made the mistake of setting up my external hard drive as “internal” storage on the Shield. I wish I had set it up as “removable.” Is there a way to convert this drive to removable storage without losing all of my recorded tv shows on the drive?

It seems like this would have to be possible, but I’ve searched and searched and can’t find a way.

I don’t have one, but -

If it’s like other Android devices, no. Not easily. Android doesn’t give a mechanism to convert it, and the drive was formatted and encrypted to work only with that device.

If you have another drive, I think you could connect it to the Shield and transfer between them. Or if you have a computer with free space, you could do a network transfer.
