I keep two libraries of my movies. One full resolution rips and ones that I encode with Handbrake for streaming. My Synology 1515+ just isn’t strong enough to encode on the fly, so I’d rather keep a streamable copy. Anyway…
In my “Streams” library, the movie “MI-5” is found and matched correctly.
However, in my “Movies” library, the same movie, with (nearly) the same filename, is not recognized.
What would cause the problem? The “stream” comes up with the correct movie, but the “movie” will only find its alternate title, “Spooks,” which is annoying more than anything else.
Your 2 libraries are maybe using different metadata agents.
Edit your library(s), go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and set the ‘Agent’ to ‘Plex Movie’ in both libraries.
Go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
and drag the line ‘Local Media Assets’ downwards, so it sits at the lower end of the list
Afterwards, perform the Plex Dance with the movie.
Post scriptum:
you may experience more and more difficulties if you continue using your current file naming schema.
Both folder and file name are supposed to read Official Movie Title (year)/Official Movie Title (year) - [optional info].ext
Don’t leave out space characters. Don’t replace space characters with other characters, like e.g. dots or underscores. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files
Thanks! Its been so long since I started using that schema, I never bothered to check if it was “right.” It just always “worked.”

Different screens. They just look the same.
One is my “streams” library. The other is my “movie” library. Just sayin’ they are set the same.
I’ll keep digging. And THANK YOU for the help.
