Why does Plex not recognize Atmos?

Atmos is additional data added on top of TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus streams. Unfortunately, Plex does not show when Atmos data is present, only displaying the underlying audio stream. The same happens with dts:X, dts’ competitor to Atmos.

There is a longstanding request to display when Atmos & dts:X exists in a file:
