My TV library is on a network drive that is hard wired into my network. My movies are on a hard drive that is plugged into my Mac Mini. The Mac Mini is around 8 years old but has not had issues playing more than one stream at the same time in the past. My neighbour can play movies without any issues. I have set Plex to transcode to a Ramdisk so I can’t see that being an issue but the error has given many issues that I am unsure how to address. I have not had issues in the past but recent until last night I can’t even play a TV or movies in my own home on my own wireless network and not get that error. Any advise?
the “required bandwidth” refers to a limitation between your Plex Media Server and the client – not your connection to a network drive hosting your files. This could e.g. be due to an indirect/relayed connection or a streaming bitrate/bandwidth limitation on your server or client.
As for indirect/relayed streaming:
check the now playing information for that video in the server dashboard
As for bitrate/bandwidth limitations:
check your client Video Quality settings for the applicable streaming mode (home streaming vs. internet/remote streaming) – if the server isn’t strong enough to handle the transcoding, try to go with original/maximum bitrate
check your server settings for restrictions… e.g. Settings > [Server Name] > Remote Access > Limit remote stream bitrate
Is this happening while streaming from within your home network or remotely?
The app seems to recognize the requests as remote.
If the server has trouble with the transcoding… is your internet upload speed fast enough to support direct playback of that video (approx. 1.4 Mbps for the Bosch episode, 8.5 Mbps for the Video in your initial post)?
Edit: 320 kbps will definitely give you a crappy video
