I recently upgraded to 1.17.0.1709 from 1.15 or 1.16 (I don’t remember), and now I’m getting this error. I don’t really want to reinstall everything…
Reinstalling probably won’t fix the problem. Only storing locally does.

I have this problem as well. Have had it for over a year if not more. I’ve just assumed eventually it will get fixed so I’ve not posted or asked for help. Obviously this isn’t a wide spread issue as its certainly not a priority? I would say 80 percent of my recordings fail. I reinstalled Plex on my Synology 418 play server and it recorded 3 shows that evening. But its failed about 80 percent of the time in the last 2 days. I tried to record 5 shows tonight and 4 failed. Errors as follows:
An error occurred while postprocessing the recording
Could not move recorded media to destination
Could not move recorded media to destination
No write access to destination.
Plex user has full access writes to the destination so I’m very confused why this happens., I’m using the latest 64 bit apps. I’m at a loss. I could move all this to my main computer, but its a gaming system and a bit of a power hog and the Synology was supposed to eliminate the need for that. It works great as a NAS but for DVR Plex its always been very unreliable. I’m about to give up on Plex. Just want to keep this thread going until Plex has it fixed:)
Thanks!
Wes
Suggest getting debug logs collected just after the error

Thanks for the reply. I’d be happy to share my logs, though I think I have verbose turned on which I just noticed is frowned upon. Usually more information is useful in troubleshooting so I never realized this was a bad thing;) I’ve never found a list of which log file says what, at least in relation to error codes so the logs have never been that useful to me. Like I said there’s always a way to get the tv show I want so I just haven’t bothered getting into the minutia to fix it.
2 of 2 additional recordings failed tonight. The first was the “could not move” and the 2nd was the “no write access” If you want my verbose logs let me know. Otherwise will try and save them after the next failed recording now that I have verbose off.
Thanks again.

OMG. I just got this error and I’m recording LOCALLY. Once again, SNL didn’t get recorded. I haven’t been able to consistently record that show all year. Schooled is also not recording correctly, but I’m not getting any errors on that one for some reason.
Ok, I’ve uploaded all of my Plex logs. I had 2 recordings that failed this evening, 3 yesterday. It’s not successfully recorded anything since the day I reinstalled Plex on my Synology NAS. That evening it worked once since then it only fails. Mostly due to “could not move recorded media to destination”
I believe this is related to another post which was speculating that the file is recorded but there’s some sort of error in the copying/moving timing due to it being a NAS. Other’s have fixed this by recording on their local pc, but I bought the NAS for this purpose so I’d rather see it fixed. If the system is too slow in finishing up the recording/moving etc is it possible that Plex is simply timing out too quickly? I’m not doing any commercial removing so that shouldn’t be the issue. If my NAS is too slow it should simply take longer, not give up.
I know that it’s recording it, but somehow the file disappears or is lost during the grab? If you need more info, let me know.
Thank you!
Wes

There seems to be an issue with the upload of the logs. Can’t see it as an attachment. Could you try to upload again
Thanks for your help!
Do you have “Enable Recycle Bin” set on the share that contains your .grab folder?
I do, and very soon after the recording starts, the file moves from the .grab folder in the destination to the .grab folder in the #recycle location. The file continues to grow and in fact is OK once the plex stops recording, but I have to manually move it since plex doesn’t know that the file moved. It’s almost as if plex did something to trigger the OS to recycle the file while recording, but because plex still has an open handle on the file it continues to write to it.
I’m at a loss as to what would trigger this happening. I’ve looked at the logs, and I don’t see anything that would indicate an error when the file is starting to be recorded.
Thanks James. I do have recycle bin enabled. I’ve not seen this happening but I’ve not looked at the logs for anything but errors. I guess I could disable this and see if that makes a difference? Always worth trying new things, thanks for the input. Hopefully we’ll figure it out, or better yet it will get fixed eventually.
I only have 2 gig of ram on my synology and wondered if adding ram would help, but my guess it wouldn’t improve anything. I do think it has something to do with the temporary file creation and movement of the grab folder.
I just tried to disable the recycle bin, and it didn’t help. The recording disappears and now I don’t have it in #recycle to copy over manually. :-p
On top of that, after reenabling the recycle bin, it no longer captures deleted files from File Station or anywhere else.
I have 8 GB memory, so I agree that isn’t likely related.
Interesting. Yeah I disabled and didn’t help me either. I had 5 failures all with the same Could Not move error. I made that change along with making sure Plex with the owner and in full control of the folders and then rebooted the NAS and still had 5 recording failures in a row. Used to be I’d get one out of 3 recorded but now I would guess its more like 1 out of 10. Good to know about the ram, I was thinking about purchasing some to test it.
Thanks!
When recording to a Synology NAS started to fail, the advice was to use a PC/Mac and record locally, which worked for me for a while.
I have now started to receive this error recording from my Mac instance of Plex and storing the recording to the desktop on my Mac, using Version 1.17.0.1709.
Are there any similar products out there that can be relied upon to simply record from Live TV?
There are certainly reliable PC centric ways of recording TV. I know Hauppauge makes several and I believe they are Mac compatible? Some are USB based and others are PCI addon cards. There are of course standalone DVR’s you can still buy too, android boxes etc. Lots of alternatives to Plex. I have a dual Hauppauge card in my PC I could use, but I much prefer using my synology so I don’t have to worry about keeping my PC on 24/7.
Good luck;)
I started getting this error too a few weeks ago. It makes my Plex setup worthless and no idea how to fix!
I broke down and mounted my Windows PC drive to the Synology and am using it to record tv to. It works reliably but I don’t like being forced to do this. I’m still at a loss as to how to fix the permissions issue it seemingly is and since Plex has full permissions and yet still acts like it doesn’t. Frustrating.
Hi. I have the same Problem with my Nvidia shield and my Synology Plex Server.
Here is the log from the Synology Server:

it is not possible to move the recorded stuff to the right place.
I already disabled the recycle bin. Things got worse without recycle bin. (See text later)
Settings are ok i guess:
Shared Folder permissions for Plex:
Update: I enabled the recycle bin again. It seems, that the media in the .grab Folder was moved to the recycle bin, before it was moved to the right Position on my movies/tv Shows Folder.
When the recycle bin is activated, i can move the media from the recycle bin manually.
Yes, this is also what I’ve been doing since upgrading to 1.17 or so. I manually move them from the recycle bin. It’s annoying, but it’s not as annoying as the file being missing, so I’m living with it for now.
One thing to note is that if you watch the files during recording they will be in the main .grab folder for a while, then after a few minutes they magically move to the #recycle bin’s .grab folder and then continue to grow as plex appends more and more data to it. That leads me to believe I have the correct permissions since the recording starts out correctly, and that something is triggering the move during recording.
I tried asking Synology support what might cause this, and they replied:
The recycle bin will work with the following services: SMB, File Station, FTP, AFP and WebDAV.
I’m running Plex directly on the NAS, so I’m not sure how Plex managed to get this behavior unless they have built in support for the #recycle bin.
Note that I can reproduce this 100% of the time and have updated several times with no change in this behavior.
Same issue here - running 1.18.1.1973 on Ubuntu / Synology NAS
I want to say it all started breaking after 1.16?
