Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna

I

I believe this is the request for the vbox channels list xml
http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/channels

So could you run the following using curl in linux shell session

curl http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952 > vbox-4952.xml
curl http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/scanners > vbox-4952_scanners.xml
curl http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/channels > vbox-4952_channels.xml

Then copy out and zip the 3 xml files

vbox-4952.xml
vbox-4952_scanners.xml
vbox-4952_channels.xml

Hi sa2000 - sorry for the late reply. I’ve had a few other domestic matters on the home front to attend to.
Finished all tests at 6:00 AM so the part of the logs you’re interested in would be between about 5:15 AM and 6:00 AM.
Firstly the text file with the contents of the xmltv responses:
xmltv.responses-22.06.2022@6.15AM.txt (9.6 KB)
Plex Media Server Databases_2022-06-22_06-08-03.zip (25.3 MB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-22_06-05-07.zip (2.0 MB)
I can only hope that you can make some sense of this information to satisfactorily resolve the cause of these problems with tuning/recording from the vbox-4952 system. I’m happy to continue to try any other tests that you might require if these probs require further resolution. Thanks sa2000 for your interest in resolving this issue.

Rhubarb

Thank you

I will have a look at the diagnostics - but i would prefer to have the actual files that curl wrote to rather than what cat displays
eg in this case
cat vbox-4952_channels.xml

Can you not copy the actual files out - the ones that curl wrote to - rather than give me what cat interprets and shows them as

You cat on the channels xml does not show a </MediaContainer> at the end -

root@dumbo:~# cat vbox-4952_channels.xml

<MediaContainer size="1">

. . .
snip
. . .

root@dumbo:~# PuTTYPuTTYPuTTY

I want to see the actual files please

There is no evidence of debug logging being enabled
There are no DEBUG log lines in the logs

see Reporting issues with Plex Media Server | Plex Support

I will look at the old logs together with the new xml. Old logs from 14 June had debug logging enabled

@Rhubarb_home I have looked at the 14th June logs together with the new xml you provided and the xmltv xml provided before and I will be referring the issue to Vbox

What we have is this

This works ok
http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/media/ABC%20TV

This crashes out / errors on the vbox

Update: The issue has been referred to Vbox. I will let you know if they require you to contact them directly

@Rhubarb_home As I mentioned earlier here Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna - #378 by sa2000 we need to understand why the VBox is failing for this streaming request
http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/media/7%20Sydney
and working for this request
http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/media/ABC%20TV

I approached VBox and they would like you to get support from Vbox through their VBox local supplier for Australia and New Zealand
They have also given me this url to pass to you - but you probably know that already
https://vboxcomm.com.au/support.htm

From what I see it looks like a vbox issue but if we are doing something wrong, they need to tell us what that is

The above shows one streaming url working and one failing. The information I gathered for the 2 channels is as follows

The 2 channel entries from response to http://192.168.0.146:55555/devices/vbox-4952/channels are

and

The xmltv xml entries for the 2 channels are

                <display-name>ABC TV NSW</display-name>
                <lcn>2</lcn>
                <icon src="http://img-store-prod.switch.tv/images/34c16e1b-c383-4ee3-87f1-378f361337d0/ABC.png" />

and

                <display-name>Channel Seven Sydney</display-name>
                <lcn>7</lcn>
                <icon src="http://img-store-prod.switch.tv/images/97a82abc-ca3c-49e1-97ac-f2b5d785f9ab/7.png" />

@sa2000, thanks for pursuing this matter. I have now referred your request to the Australia/New Zealand VBox local support supplier as you requested. Hopefully, the local VBox support will communicate directly with you, but I am happy to do whatever I can to help resolve these issues.

Hi,

I’m running into a similar issue as above. I’m getting the error “Could not tune channel, please check your tuner or antenna”. I’ve 2 Vbox tuners. One for DVB-S2 and the other for DVB-T2. I’m having issues with the DVB-T2 box in Plex. The S2 box works as expected… As for the T2 box I get the above error message. I’m able to use the T2 Vbox android app and stream the channels via VLC player also. Can you advise?

Thanks

That is a different problem which I believe is related to having more than one vbox device. You can gather some diagnostics

What I would need:

  • server running with debug logging enabled - see server logs web page
  • reproducing the tuning error and downloading the logs zip (plex web / server settings / troubleshooting / download logs)
  • downloading the database and sending me the zip by private message - upload somewhere and send link if too big to attach (plex web / server settings / troubleshooting / download database)
  • giving me ip addresses of each of the 2 vbox devices

Best to reproduce with a fresh launch of Plex Media Server and having had debug logging enabled before the launch

Hi,

Server Logs attached
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-29_17-34-19.zip (4.5 MB)

192.168.68.103 (TV_Box, This is the one giving bother. It used to work)
192.168.68.121 (SatelliteBox)

I reproduced the tuning error and then tuned in the Satellite Box afterwards for a comparison

Database sent via by private message too

Thanks

what is on 192.168.68.104 ?

Do you use DHCP Reservations for the vbox devices ? Or you allow IP addresses to change with DHCP ?

Can you tell me the ethernet mac addresses for the vbox dvr’s

on !92.168.68.104 Is also the Satellite box, I’ve since switched off the Wifi off both Vbox’s. They were dual connected via ethernet and wifi

Yes I use DHCP reservations so the IP always remain the same, However I believe the Ethernet on the Vbox’s are static by default.

MAC for TV Box: 00:D0:72:64:52:7D
MAC for Satellite Box: 00:D0:72:64:59:DE

Having this issue the last few days. Updated to latest server version, still happening today. Also it’s intermittant. Once in while it’ll tune fine, then not work soon after.

All my HDHR logs say are:

Tuner: failed to tune 90 9HD (t7dvbt:192MHz-1152)
HTTP: rejecting request from 192.168.1.182 - tune failed

Also in Australia. Running the latest plex windows version.
