Couldn't claim server, now I don't even have the option to do so and I can't connect

Server Version#:1.32.7.7621-871adbd44-x86_64
Player Version#:

Hello there,
I’ll start by saying I’m no expert using plex. I downloaded the server a few years ago, and haven’t had a problem with it until now. A month ago there was an update available, I downloaded and began the updated as normal, but there was a problem and a message came up saying I should manually install the update. After it was all done, I got a message saying I needed to claim my server, but it wasn’t letting me. I followed the steps in other forums with the same problems, but nothing worked, I finally ended up uninstalling and deleting all plex files so I could start fresh. Now when I launch the server, it’s stuck loading with the plex logo on the screen.

Hello @ChuckPa I’ve seen you respond on other topics, and wondered if you could help me out. Plex doesn’t seem to have traditional tech support, and I’m not techy enough to fix Plex on my own.

@arcont89

Sorry for the delay – CRAZY  day for me.

Can you please restart plex. wait 2 minutes, try to open it, Let it spin a minute, then stop it.

IF I understand Windows correctly

In your %AppData%\Local you’ll find Plex Media Server. Under it, you’ll find “Logs”.

Please make a ZIP of the Logs folder and attach it here for me.

I have PMS on my Drive D in a custom location so mine looks different

Thank you so much for getting back to me, hope crazy day meant fun day! Lol

So since my original post, my screen is no longer stuck on loading. Now it just keeps telling me I need to download the server despite having it already.

I’ve tried other things, but I’ll wait for you to look at the logs before I throw all that at you

Check your computer’s date & time.

Make certain it’s sync’d with the time server.

If the system clock isn’t in sync with the world, SSL will fail to connect.

I have it automatically set and just refreshed the sync. I exited out of plex and relaunched, there’s no change to plex.

Fill me in on the other things you’ve tried.

From what I see: Server name is your username (arcont89)

CREATED OVER 6 YEARS AGO
LAST SEEN 4 DAYS AGO

You’re showing me Pacific Time.
If I said “Long Beach”, would I be close ?

I ask this solely to confirm what Plex.tv sees / has on record.

Have you tried using a fresh, incognito, browser window to open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web ?

Correct on server name and Long Beach. I just tried opening on incognito, hadn’t tried that before, no change.

As for the things I’ve tried already, I made a backup of my PMS RegEdit, then started deleting the token, email and username. I can’t remember if I saw it on a topic here, or if it was a youtube video, it worked for someone having the same problem as me but it didn’t fix my issue.

After this I uninstalled plex and deleted all files from my comp, I thought a fresh reinstall would help, this also didn’t work. The last thing I did was install PMS on my laptop (I had it there in the past), on my laptop everything works great, my server is claimed, and even some of my old media setup is still there. I wondered if I could copy the token from my laptop and use it on the pc, but it was no good, so I restored my comp RegEdit again.

Since I was only looking to see if plex would work elsewhere, I uninstalled PMS from my laptop and that’s when I reached out.

If all that didn’t resolve it then you’ve exceeded my knowledge of windows by a great deal.

What I see is a SSL problem in your logs.

I don’t know if you have a proxy or VPN outbound or something else but the SSL is getting clobbered.

That’s all I can see from the logs.
How to fix it is far beyond my understanding

Oh no! Well that’s a bummer lol

I do have a VPN but I disabled it when the problems started. Plus I’ve always had the VPN and PMS at the same time, I’ve never had an issue. I don’t quite know what to do now.

I never use a VPN for anything Plex.
All my Plex traffic is HTTPS anyway so it doesn’t matter.

Might your VPN software have taken control of your SSL / network software layer?

That is an excellent question. I don’t see how it could have, but that’s getting a little beyond me now. Would you happen to know how I could check that?

@arcont89

I’ve asked a few folks to come help.

That’s great! Thank you so much

Not sure if this will help with SSL issues, but a couple of networking items I noticed:

The WiFi adapter keeps disappearing and re-appearing (80 times in PlexMediaServer.log).
Disable it, so the system will use only the wired interface.

In Settings → Network, disable IPv6. It appears you’ve no IPv6 on your network. The interface addresses are all local. There are no publicly routable addresses.

Then reboot the PC.

Hello, I tried this, no luck. At this point I’m considering factory resetting the whole computer, but I suspect that will not help either.

Upload a new set of log files first. They might show something different since you’ve changed a few things.

Hi, I’ve been in the middle of a move and haven’t had time to take care of this further, I’m settling into my new place, I’ll try to upload new log files soon!
