Couple of questions on 'going live'?

I have a sagetv setup with a Ceton tuner that has been working perfectly for years, so I’ve not bothered to look into the plex option,. I’m considering it now at least to test, and I’m wondering;

Since I need to buy a tuner, which would be the best, least problematic? The Ceton I have is a network attached, so I’m OK with that idea if it works well, by the same token, the small USB jobs would be fine as well. Whatever works best.

Also, I’d thought that plex ONLY supported OTA tuners, but i see that some of the tuners themselves support clear qam and even cable card. So I’m wondering if I get a tuner that supports either or both, will the cable card channels work on plex? Or the qam? If nothing else, I’m hoping I can get the local channels off the cable (FIOS) line rather than having to run an antenna for that?

Thoughts?

Thanks all.

I use 2 HDHomerun primes(network tuners) which utilizes cable cards.

I am on Comcast and in my region they only DRM the premium channels ie: HBO, Showtime, Cinemax etc. (Your provider may differ as even different regions on the same provider may also differ)

DRM channels or “copy-once” channels are the only channels that DO NOT work in Plex.

So yes, for me it works perfectly as I get 400 channels out of the 430 that I pay for. (the rest I use the separate apps for ie: HBOGO etc.)

Great, that’s the same that I get out of sage, so I guess I’ll give that a try. Thanks!
