I am using plex for some days to stream from my pc to my LG oled 55c1 but I’ve noticed my cpu going warm when using it for watching 4k videos. I took a pass and activated the hardware acceleration but that didn’t seemed to fix it. I have a 5900x and I’m on W11.
It is normal that a busy CPU is getting warm. Transcoding video for 90 minutes will make a CPU pretty much constantly busy.
It is the task of the computer manufacturer to make sure that the heat can be dissipated quick enough.
If your computer has a cooling system which can’t handle a constantly loaded CPU, it is not suitable as a Plex server.
If the CPU is loaded 100%? Yes, that’s actually quite good. These CPU’s are specced for even higher temps.
But of course the cooler you can run them, the longer they are going to last.
If you want it to run cooler, you need to modify the cooling system.
i.e. build it yourself, use a bigger case, use “overclocker” coolers etc.
