Plex Dashboard CPU shows system at 100% but windows task manager shows 15% cpu usage. Trying to play a video with subtitles so it is transcoding but getting a message on my client that my host media server is not fast enough. CPU is Intel core i5 11500. Any ideas if my settings are off?
Is this somehow related to this issue?
I’m not sure what’s going on but your CPU on the Plex graph is reaching 100% and on the Task Monitor it’s only at 19%. Are these screenshots taken at the same time? The Plex CPU graph always shows the full all-core workload as far as I know.
At the time of the screenshot, the CPU clock was at 500 MHz.
That awfully looks like thermal throttling to me.
Check your cooling system. Particularly whether the cpu fan, and case fan(s) are still spinning, as well as whether any of them and the air vents and cooling fins are covered or blocked by something – be it other things or simply dust & fluff.
Depending on the machine, there might even be a chance that the cooler fell off (or just slightly lifted from) the cpu or that the thermal paste has dried up.
OK Otto I think you called this one right. I removed the CPU heatsink, removed the thermal paste, and remounted the CPU heatsink with new thermal paste. I also moved the CPU fan connection to the correct lead on the motherboard. CPU was hitting 100 deg C on transcode. Now I can transcode 3 streams at once and the CPU doesn’t even hit 80 deg C. Thank you for pointing me in the direction!
