Crash/Choppy Live TV Playback on Pixel XL and Beta Build 1280

I’ve seen several posts from other users since the v6.3 beta began that have had problems with live TV playback has been choppy on Pixel phones. The common theme has been that playback is better if you enabled “Use Android Media Player” in the advanced options.

This initially worked well for me, but after Plex v1.8 came out, attempts at live TV playback result in an immediate crash. I’m running the new 1280 build of the Android app.

Using the stock ExoPlayer v2 I can avoid the crash, but just as it was before, video playback is very, very choppy.

Can anyone else reproduce these issues?

Exactly as you describe with my Google Pixel.

They released another beta today, intended to address this issue (according to the release notes). However, it looks like the current workaround is to ignore the “Use Android Media Player” flag when watching live TV. Plex reports using ExoPlayer v2, and video playback is choppy.

I’m still having choppy video playback in today’s update, 6.4.0.1403-beta
