Crash when enabling Hardware transcoding - Quick Sync Video

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5388
Player Version#: n/a

When enabling hw transcoding on my new machine (Intel H310M with Core i3-8100), the server immediately crashes when starting (transcoding) a video. When deactivating hw transcoding, everything works fine.

crash Timestamp: ~18.09.2018 21:17:35

Any idea?

will have a look at your diagnostics. In meantime check if you are running the server headless / through RDP / as a service - as this would result in crashes with HW Acceleration

Ahh, I wasn’ aware of that. I was running the server as a service. When running as “normal” user application, everything is fine.

Thanks for your help!

Btw, I guess I found another (unrelated) bug: when running transcoding (sw or hw doesn’t matter) and clicking in the client (tried with chrome webbrowser) on some arbitrary point on the timeline, a new PlexTranscodingService will be created (that’s imho fine) but the now obsolete PlextranscodingService continues running (and consumes still CPU). The “activity” tab still shows just one transcoding.

Unused transcoder process should get timed out after 3 minutes. Please raise separate forum topic as it does not relate to crashes with hardware acceleration which is the subject of this forum thread. Please include server logs with debug logging enabled and screenshots

I have the auto start option selected for Plex but I do access my NUC exclusively via RDP. Just curious why this would cause an issue with hardware transcoding (I haven’t enabled the feature by the way).

If Plex Media Server is started through RDP or as a service or scheduled task, it would run without the desktop and this would result in some graphics adapter codecs not being available

Good to know. I won’t turn on hardware transcoding.
