Crashes - Error CE-34878-0

This happens to me daily as well now. Straight up crashes and shuts down the PS4. Reboot, repair filesystem, send report, etc. Load up Plex, and it can crash on selecting a user, playing a video (usually towards the last few minutes of it), or finishing a video. On reboot I get the error code CE-36329-3.

February 2018 UP! Somebody please for God’s sake fix this error! As much as I used to LOVE this app on the PS4, I hate it now from the bottom of my heart! It crashes every 3-4 minutes and also if for any reason I have to pause a video within those 3-4 minutes, it crashes right away! It also crashes when the app is left idle for a few minutes!

This is completely and absolutely UNBEARABLE! PLEASE update the app to fix this issue! PLEASE! We’ve all been having this issue since past 8 months or so! Please do something!

8 months? More like since 1 year and a half haha.

Man this is absolutely unbearable! I can no longer watch animated movies with the kids, can’t plan an evening to binge watch something that I’ve been waiting for months.

I’ve organised everything to work directly with the PS4 so I don’t have manually plug in the hard drives to the TV everytime I want to watch something. It used to work like a charm about 8 months ago but it’s just the worst ever since then. Unfortunately there isn’t any other alternative on the PS4 either or I would’ve jumped on it right away!

I can’t believe this problem is more than a year old and NO ONE has done anything about it! Most incompetent, inefficient team ever!

Plex for Roku for example and Xbox One works like a charm. Seems they gave up on PS4 long time ago.

I have Chromecast. I’ll try to cast the PC screen to the TV while transmitting audio to my PlayStation official bluetooth headset connected to the CPU. This could take some time to set up but worth a try.

I just posted a new discussion before finding this one… Same problem getting CE-34878-0 fault in EVERY situation, just starting the APP, sitting in or browsing the Menu, playing any video. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plex app numerous times, but results are the same. WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED? I never have this problem with the PS3, although Plex is very laggy on that, so I don’t even bother using it.

I wouldn’t be so miffed if we just weren’t stonewalled. I perfectly understand the PS3/PS4 are hard to develop for. It’s the ignoring that gets to me.

What do you say Kay.One - could you give us a few seconds of your time?

Edit: Seems Kay.One hasn’t made a single comment since July 2017, he’s probably quit working for Plex.

I wouldn’t be so miffed if we just weren’t stonewalled. I perfectly understand the PS3/PS4 are hard to develop for. It’s the ignoring that gets to me.

What do you say Kay.One - could you give us a few seconds of your time?

Well hope it’s gonna change something. Plex dev giving up is nothing but not looking good. Yes the PS4 is hard to develop on but other applications seems to get it right whatever it takes.

And yes the ignoring is terribly INSULTING.

What would it be to tell us like we don’t know when we’ll have someone for PS4, the guy we had quit and we’re fucked. Also maybe telling people what’s going on would make people know and contribute.

ONE post on reddit and I’m sure in ONE week someone would want to join their team for PS4.

So I tried mirroring the whole PC screen to my TV using Chromecast. Very laggy. If anything, it’s even worse.

I even initialized my PS4 Pro twice in the hope that it’ll make Plex work. No change at all. Still the world’s worse app for media streaming on PS4.

Exactly my view too. I can’t believe how they can just ignore the PS4 app like this with thousands of users suffering for so long while they still keep pushing updates for other platforms. The only option left for me right now is to use the Mobile app which works absolutely perfectly but yet again, what’s the point of my 65" OLED TV and PS4 Pro when in the end I have to settle down with a 6" phone screen.

PLEASE PLEX Team, PLEASE send an update to rectify this! PLEASE! We’re practically begging now. PLEASE.

I very much agree with you that if Plex tells us what really is wrong with the app or issues within their team internally, somebody would definitely volunteer to contribute right away. To ignore us like this is just shameful.

But, we’ll be spending a lot of time with the PS4 while updating it to run the new version of the app. In the process we’ll be working with Sony to update our platform dependencies which will hopefully increase stability.

I cannot express how relieved I am to hear from you Paul! I’m sure I can say for the rest of us that this is very reassuring and I, for one, am desperately waiting for the update. Thank you so very much for responding!

Hi @Shalashaskaa, Please read to the end, I have two workarounds for you.

I have been using Plex on PS4 for 3 years and recently it started acting up. On my old NAS, (QNAP TS-420) it would freeze and close out when I would search for something specific. I would get a letter or two in the search bar and it would freeze and close out of the app. Browsing the library and playing videos from the library worked fine.

I upgraded to a QNAP TS-653 and it has been a lot more stable…until recently. Somewhere between the Plex loading screen and the Multimedia Home Screen, the app bounces out to the PS Blue Screen with the error listed above. (CE-34878-0)

In most cases, I would launch the app 2 or 3 more times and it would open up properly and stream without any issues.

After the latest PS Software Update 5.55, I decided to try to ā€œrefreshā€ the installed Plex app on my PS4 and so I deleted the app, reinstalled it, and now I am seeing the PS Blue Screen Error every time I link the PS Plex app to my Plex account. I can no longer use Plex via the PS app.

Now for the workarounds:

  1. There are some DLNA apps that allow you to stream from the Plex mobile app (Free or with a Plex Pass) to your PS4. An alternate to this is to use the Media Player installed on PS4 to connect directly to your media server and stream through there.

  2. Launch the PS4 web browser, navigate to plex.tv and log in. You’ll have the same functionality as the PS Plex app, except you’ll have the PS cursor on the screen when making selections.

These are just workarounds for now…until Plex can provide us with an update.
