I just started with Plex. I installed it on my Synology DS918+ with 12GB RAM and 256GB r/w cache.
Last Friday, I added a Plex Premium Music Library. It contains ~195GB of mp3 music (and metadata, i.e. folder.jpg). Unfortunately, the library is still scanning after three days. I cannot see any progress in the logs, nor in the library itself.
Is this expected behaviour, how long should it take?
Kind regards,
Andries

A follow-up from my side. Browsing through all manuals and posts, I finally managed to get my music scanned and included in a library. Also I included my iTunes playlists and ratings.
For others, this is what I did:
ensured that all mp3 files would have the following metadata: artist, title, album artisit
let iTunes manage my folder structure. In that way you get a Plex compatible music overview of /Music/Artist/Album
In this way I could load all my music within half a day (195GB).
To make my iTunes playlists (incl the smart playlists) and ratings in Plex, I did the following:
copy the XML iTunes Music Library file to my Synology in a non-Plex or music source folder (in my case: /volume1/Programs/iTunes/Plex
edit the XML file with Notepad++ and include/replace all music file and folder paths to: file://localhost/volume1/Music /[Artist]/[Album]/[Music file]
point Plex to the XML file (settings/plugins --> add the path to your XML file and tick “enable iTunes plugin”
restart Plex
in Plex, next to playlists, click the three dots (…) and select import from iTunes. Wait a while and then it should succeed
ps. please note that downloaded Apple Music files will not become playable. When they are in your playlists, they do not show up or are matched by Plex with other music files from your library (sometimes a good match, often not).
