I have tried to create an Optimised version of a movie in my Plex library however after converting for a few minutes the Conversion Task fails and states “Unable to convert”.
Just an overview of my Setup:
nVidia Shield as my PMS, Synology NAS connected as Network Attached Storage to Shield. (both on wired network)
Plex can successfully stream and transcode files fine, it can even sync files with devices but any optimised task fails after a few minutes. The PMS does have read/write access to my NAS folder as I can see its already created the “Plex Versions” folder. I also have a plugin in Plex which downloads subtitles that works and places files in the same directory (so write access is there).
Can anyone tell me what could be wrong here? I’ve downloaded the log files but there are many, if you can let me know which one you need to debug I’d be happy to post it up.
HW transcoding doesn’t work very well on the SHIELD, its been reported in several threads. If you turn off HW transcoding for your optimised version, it should complete fine.

That’s OK as a workaround … but one of the main selling points of the Shield is the hardware acceleration. Has there been any indication from Plex that they’re going to address this?
