The app is still in a very bad shape:
- Navigation is incredibly slow when highlighting an element, there is a multi-second delay for details and artworks to load. The current app loads in half a second. Maybe less.
- Subtitle styling is still broken, see: Subtitles styling is broken when changing OS subtitles style
- STILL CAN’T START PLAYBACK WITH THE PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (unbelievable)
- The player is awful. No preview thumbnails, scrolling the timeline instantly jumps the playback without confirmation, zoom to fill is a million clicks away, and just overall bad layout and feeling while trying to navigate the hud
- Pressing the back button doesn’t auto-scroll the main lists and categories when you go back to home, making navigations cumbersome
- No theme music
- Background art and cast info sometimes don’t load in the details page, more frequent for tv shows
- Live TV straight up doesn’t work
- When opening an episode page from home, you don’t have the ability to quickly browse the season anymore, you are thrown in that single episode details page. Current app is way better for navigation IN EVERY SINGLE WAY, here everything is multiple more clicks and selections away.
I have absolutely zero faith in this new app and I’m still sad about the direction we are headed in. So many decisions needs to be revised by someone who actually uses Plex on TV daily.
I’m actually about to buy a second ATV4K for a different room ahead of time just to download the “good” Plex app and block future updates.
