There was some information shared here:
And I would like to express my alarm.
In that (welcome, detailed) post, this one comment stuck out:
goal of having a consistent Plex playback experience across all platforms
I would like to give some strident feedback: this is not a thing that Plex users want. I do not demand that Plex be identical on each platform.
We want Plex experiences that make sense on each platform.
I want the player itself to make sense, taking advantages of the features and quirks of each platform. I don’t want - or need - the player widgets to look similar between devices. I want them to actually be native for the platform, not to look the same as Plex on a Roku/Android/Television/Web Page.
I want the search experience to make sense on each platform. I don’t want to give up each platform’s native keyboard, with extensions and accessibility and native speed.
My Mother can pick up and use most Mac and Apple TV apps because she is familiar with how the platforms behave. She knows how to use the remote. She knows how to use her phone to extend the Apple TV.
If you make Plex behave differently, then she doesn’t know how to use it at all. She doesn’t bop between Plex on different platforms and complain that it looks different.
If Plex has an internal goal of consistency between platforms I hope that can be removed as a metric.
Please target goodness on each platform instead.
