We seem to have lost “related movies” on a movies individual page. I get offered “Titles you.migbt like on Plex”, despite having Live TV disabled.
I also get show.nmovies from the same cast and crew" but even if it’s a film I have in my personal library, it offers me the plex version or to add it to the watch list.
Is there to be no more cross pollination inside our own Libraries anymore?
The first thing I noticed is the missing letters in alphabetical order along the right side for faster scrolling through libraries. Many users have large libraries so this is a very important feature. It would be nice to have this feature in the watchlist as well.
New UI looks great, thanks for all the work you do!
No way to set automatic quality playback from what I can see when watching shows from your library. You can select a quality, but not way to have it set to automatically.
There doesn’t seem to be a way to view the file name. Previously there was a File Info option which listed the file name, file size, video and audio details.
I would also add that the horizontal layout is not practical at all, and no platform (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus) uses it because scrolling is done vertically, not horizontally. It’s more comfortable for our thumbs and eyes. Additionally, I find the episode thumbnails too large. The size and vertical scrolling were just perfect in the current version of Plex.
When playing a video, I liked the icon to change subtitles, which avoids a cumbersome process. Could it be possible to add an icon to change the audio track as well?
And something the Infuse app does quite well: enable the spoiler option by blurring the episode and the summary.
“No way to pre-select which track or quality you want to play back before you are watching the content. Ie if I want to enable a commentary track (of which I cannot see exists on the main item screen), I have to be in the movie itself to enable.”
This is a big feature missing right now, both for the audio and subtitle track. This isn’t just about commentary tracks or different codecs, track selection is also used to select the language you’re gonna watch in.
Adding on to this with a pretty big missing feature for me personally — there is no option to select which version of the movie to watch. Most of the time I’ll have multiple files with different qualities per and select a different quality if I need to let up on bandwidth or transcoding, sometimes it’s a case of having multiple HDR versions (DV, HDR10+, etc.).
I want to add that I don’t like the removal of displaying studios for movies and TV on the new app. I know this technically is intended as it was removed other players well over a year ago, but I really hope the Plex devs would reconsider this and add this back for all players. I understand that studio is not as useful for a lot of western content, but it’s super useful for me with anime.
In the new app, the home screen shows any server that has been Favourited , in the order they’re set in the Favourite Libraries menu.
I realize that and indeed on my iPhone this behavior is as expected. On my iPad however it isn’t. Changing Favorited and Favorite Libraries and their order has zero effect on what my iPad displays.
This could be because of changes I have made to what is displayed for me from my servers. Instead of the usual “Recently Added” category I’ve for a while used a Collection to display that as “Recently Added & Unwatched” (using this method: Show Only Unwatched in "Recently Added" - #10 by pshanew).
I’ve also noticed that my iPad will show all servers in portrait mode just not in landscape mode so there may be something else going on here too.
I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that fixes my particular bug with this.
Bug: Series pages of personal media don’t load. E.g, I have a “season” of home movies that display perfectly in the current app, with poster art and fan art. In the new app, the popover page slides up, loads for 2-3 seconds, then sits at the blank, black popover page. This doesn’t happen with TV shows with TVDB listings, so shows like The Simpsons appear as they should.
UI: Too much of a show’s homepage is dedicated to uninteractable artwork. E.g., I’m looking at Poirot, and the first interactable object (the review stars) is 2/3 down the page. The first object that sees regular use (the Watch button) is fully 3/4 down the page. On my iPhone 14 Pro, all the seasons are hidden until I scroll.
UX: Horizontally scrolling lineups are a bad experience.
Show seasons and episodes should be vertical lists, or at least be an option.
On a keyboard, fingers each handle a vertical column, and on keyboards with multiple thumb keys, the thumb also travels vertically to itself (which appears horizontal since it’s on its side). Phone app and photo libraries are nearly exclusively displayed the width of the screen and scroll vertically for a reason.
So it turns out these issues are caused by two separate things. The Fast Five cast, ratings and extras not showing up was fixed by refreshing all library metadata. Guess I hadn’t in a while because I was afraid of the gracenote posters. Side note: this also fixed the logos not showing up for local media. Not sure there is anything actionable for devs, but requiring or recommending a metadata refresh should probably be mentioned in the FAQ thread.
The issue specific to local extras happens when you have local extras for an unmatched item. For example that Stanley Cup championship film has since had a TMDB entry made for it, so when refreshing metadata it matched it and now you can see the local extras show up. Should probably clarify that in the main list for devs
That’s by design and in line with Plex‘s announcement to focus their apps on specific use cases / media types. For music, you might want to check out Plexamp.
I’m fairly certain it’s using the experimental player, which is still mpv but it’s using Metal/MoltenVK. Not sure which build exactly but it’s still a work in progress so there’s still bugs they’re ironing out.
I really hope it is still using mpv and just behaving weirdly due to the early/experimental state. Can someone of the Plex devs please confirm it’s still using mpv?
