Current Plex Media Server Incompatible with DSM 7.1

The current version of Plex Media Server for Synology is incompatible with DSM 7.1(DSM 7.1-42621). When trying to install I get this error “This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version.” Is this just an an issue of Plex not being caught up with the latest version of DSM?

Server Version#:1.25.8.5663-e071c3d62
Player Version#:NA

Did you download the package for DSM or DSM7 ?

I have DSM 7.0.1. I’m not aware of a DSM 7.1 other than the BETA

Synology® consolidates product advances in DSM 7.1 Beta

7.1 was the most recent normal release on their website as of 3 days ago. I did ensure I downloaded the Plex release for DSM 7, but tried all the other DSM releases to be sure with no luck. I suspect it’s just an issue of a very new release and Plex not having had time to update the software yet. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything else.

Not sure if this is helpful but I run my PLEX server on a Synology DS416play.

My NAS is running DSM Version 7.0.1-42218 Update 3. It usually prompts me and sends me a notification when there is an update, but I haven’t seen any yet for DSM 7.1.

My PLEX server is Version 1.25.8.5663. Whenever I updated it hasn’t give me any errors. It warns me about 3rd party software but other than that is seems to be working.

I went to the DSM download page and this is what it says about DSM 7.1:

DSM 7.1 RC: A release candidate (RC) for DSM is in the last phase of the software development life cycle before the official release.

That is in line with what @ChuckPa said about it being a BETA version.

Anyway, best of luck.

Based on all the turmoil experienced during DSM 7.0 development,

I will not expend any effort on DSM 7.1 until it is final release.
The pain 7.0 caused, through the 2 beta releases , through RC, including Final, was too much.

I will not develop on a ‘moving target’ because there was no package compatibility between versions.

Now please consider what you’re seeing – DSM 7.1 not compatible with DSM 7 ???
When did we ever have these problems throughout the entire lifespan of DSM 6 ?

:thinking:

This seems to be what happened. Really disappointed in Synology. I was following instructions on their site to reinstall DSM because of some problems I had been having. They gave no indication that the last install in the process was of an RC, not a final version. I don’t blame Plex one bit for the problems. Synology has done nothing but make their job difficult. Thanks for the replies. I guess I just have to wait now.

DSM is something you can’t rollback or downgrade…
So, I don’t recommend installing beta or RC versions.

Also, rule of thumb, if you have Plex, wait for the GA checking here in the forum…

@jxp05j

Synology knows how to downgrade DSM.

If you can talk them into it, they will connect via their secured backdoor remote connection (Remote Help) and change it.

I did not know that, thanks ChuckPa…
They always put a message in their release notes saying you can’t downgrade, so that was the only true to me…

Update to all:

I’ve reached out to Synology and requested whatever documentation they might have updated & ready for me to start reading & reviewing.

I really appreciate you taking a look

@jxp05j

Which Synology model are you using?

I ask because Synology wants to recreate the problem.

Im running a DS1817+

Thank you.

I will forward that to Synology.

I decided to install DSM 7.1 on my DS218+.
Plex is working perfectly, no actions had to be taken, just upgraded DSM and Plex was already running, movies playing normally.

My issue is with a new install. But I’m glad it’s working for you - hopefully that means it won’t take too much work to get a fresh install working.

I have had a conversation with Synology.

I will quote their reply to me:

After our development team did the initial investigation, we didn’t find any issues on our side nor did we receive any support tickets yet. Therefore, we would love to see if we could have more information from your side.
Could you provide us the debug log of that NAS encountering the incompatibility issue and also the Plex file he installed on his NAS? With the information, we may dig more. Thank you for your help and time.

My question to you is: Did you submit a support ticket to Synology?

@jxp05j

Would you be willing to look here?

Here’s another user asserting DSM 7.1 works for him.

I’m trying to figure out what’s happening with yours and if it might be “different beta version” related.

works here too.

are you downloading the right file? You want the 64 bit Intel file for DS1817+
