DSM7.1 installer not working?

Hello, just tried to update to the latest beta, I received the notification of the release of the latest Beta and went to install.

I am receiving the error “This package is not supported on the platform of Diskstation or is incompatible with the current DSM version”

Downloaded the installer via plex download page Plex Media Server for Synology (DSM 7) :

PlexMediaServer-1.41.0.8930-056c2ed26-armv7neon_DSM7.spk

rolled it back to: PlexMediaServer-1.40.5.8854-f36c552fd-armv7neon_DSM7.spk

and the library is available again.

I am running DS215J, DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 5

is 7.1 no longer supported as the filename matches that on 7.2.2 release?

It looks like the package for DSM7.2 has also been uploaded to DSM7 download link as well, my Synology can not be updated to 7.2…

Unless the 2 are now considered the same?

I’ve a DS414 (DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6), which uses the armv7hf version of the spk. I can install and run both 1.40.5.8921 and 1.41.0.8930.

Can you install 1.40.5.8921, the current public release?

If 1.40.5.8921 will not install, something may have gone wrong when Plex created the files.

If it installs OK, please try redownloading the beta version from plex.tv and see if it installs?

Just a double check that something didn’t go wrong during the download.


FYI, Synology does not support direct downgrades. If installing an older version, you have to uninstall the more current release first. When prompted (after “are you sure”), choose the “Uninstall Only” option. The database and other info in the Plex Data Folder will be preserved.

Synology changed how packages are installed on DSM 7.2.2. The new method is not compatible with previous versions of DSM 7, so Plex had to create separate installers. The PMS binaries, etc. are the same.

The file name for the 7.2.2+ release is different, with DSM72 at the end.

You don’t have to run it, just see if it installs.

Hi @thenextbutton We did make some changes to all three of our Plex Media Server for Synology packages (DSM 6, DSM 7, and DSM 7.2.2) and its possible that I missed something when handling supported architectures. I will take a look at this today.

While I check this, can you try the non-armv7neon build from our downloads site?

The armv7hf versions install on my DS414 (DSM 7.1.1), both public (1.40.5.8921) and beta (1.41.0.8930).
The Intel 64bit beta works on my DS918+ (DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5). I didn’t try the public release.

EDIT: 1.40.5.8921 also installs & runs on my DS918+.

I notice that within the info file for 1.40.5 package there is mention of the armada375 under the arch info,
arch=“armada375 armada38x alpine alpine4k monaco comcerto2k”

but there is not within 1.41.0
arch=“armv7 armada38x monaco”

I am not familiar with packaging for DSM, is this something that could possibly be causing issues?

hi @thenextbutton that was a miss on our side! Let me get you a build shortly of 1.41.0 that adds armada375 back to arch.
