Smart Collections, Custom Recommendation Rows, and the ability to add them to the users Home Screen is awesome!
HOWEVER, because smart collections do not take into account the ‘watched/unwatched’ status of each individual user, the current implementation is somewhat limited.
A solution for this would be the ability to create custom rows based on a custom filter, which then links to the library with that filter applied.
This already happens in the built-in row ‘Top Unplayed Movies’, which simply pulls items from the filter ‘Unwatched - Sort by Audience Rating’. And when you click on the row, it takes you to a filtered movie library view as below:
Because it’s an active filter and not a smart collection, this means that the row populates based on each individual users watched/unwatched status.
Being able to create custom rows based on a custom filter would allow us to create more flexible rows and recommendations that are more personal to the user.
