Custom Sorting for Collection

Hello, all I’m trying to set up a method to have all the MCU movies in chronological order within an “MCU” collection. Is there a way of doing that without affecting the sort order in the normal “non-collection” Library view? thanks.

Yes, this functionality is built into Plex.
Edit the collection meta data… you’ll find an option to overwrite the default display order within that collection in the advanced tab.

That only gives me alphabetical and release dates as options. I need a chronological one.

Maybe you can help me understand what you mean with “chronological”?
I took it to mean by release date…

Ok, fair. I can see how you got that. So let’s use the Marvel Cinematic Universe for example. Those movies have been release all sorts of out of order. I don’t know of an easy way that I can keep them in alphabetical order in the main library view AND yet have them in the “correct” order in a collection view. Does that help at all? Thank you for the response.

have you considered using the “sort title”?
the kind of “chronological” order you have in mind is not based on any metadata available to Plex… so you could e.g. give them a sort title such as “MCU1”, “MCU2”, “MCU3”… “MCU22” and then sort them alphabetically.

Thank you for the response. I have thought about doing that. The only issue is that doesn’t allow for them to sort normally within the full movie library. They are always going to be sorted by the MCU# and not their true title. Correct?

correct.
if you don’t like that you’re left with using a playlist where you put them all in the right sequence (manually).
