If possible it would be nice to sort collections differently than the entire library. For example, I like my library alphabetized, but I would prefer my James Bond collection sorted by year.
Cheers,
Daniel
It is possible to fix this manually. In Plex Media Manager, edit metadata for each Bond movie, and fill in sort order for each like “James Bond 1”, “James Bond 2”… or maybe even “James Bond 1965”, James Bond 1977"… etc. will work.
Not exactly. I still want the bond movies to be sorted alphabetically in library. Just in the collections I think it would be useful to enable different sorting options.
Count me in for this request!
I would even go further and would like an option whre I could set:
Only show movies of 2010 and only show unwatched. You know, a filter where I can choose multiple options!
I could do with a similar function.
I’m currently collecting Shameless Screen Entertainment DVD’s which are labelled SHAM001, SHAM002 etc. I would like them to appear alphabetically in library like they are now (New York Ripper - SHAM001, Phantom of Death - SHAM002 etc.) but I would like to create a Shameless collection and have them appear in number order and maybe if possible have it show the shameless artwork over the original.
It’s like I need secondry metadata for films or even use the metadata from the file rather than using a metadata agent when in a collection
Would something like this be possible? I’ve had a quick look around and I cant seem to find an existing solution
New Plex used here. I’d also like to be able to sort collections by year while leaving the main library by name within the Plex Client.
Changing the “Sort Name” as per Wilbur’s suggestion works, but moves movies out of place in the “All Movies” section of the client. This will become more of an issue as my library grows (still got a lot of discs to transfer to NAS).
I don’t use collections, and just just stick series’s together by editing the sort by title, but I like your idea and may change if this is implemented.
+1
multiple sorting options will also benefit movies belonging in more than one collection (crossover titles) such as “Freddy vs. Jason”, “Alien vs. Predator” etc.

I would really like to be able to sort collections by year as well.

I would love this option for collections like Harry Potter and James Bond.
+1 to sort collections by date (or some type of custom sorting)
Great suggestion. back in plex 8 there was posible to list the movies chronologicly, why did you remove that feature?
I just got this to work for Star Wars and Harry Potter etc.
I edited each movie and put the collection as "Star Wars" and then in the sort title used SW001, SW002 etc. The movies were grouped together and in the proper order.
Just FYI.
Another +1 for the ability to select to sort Collections by year yet leave the main library to be sorted by name. Â Like above in the post, in my main full movie library I still want my James Bond movies to be sorted by the movie name (ex: Goldfinger, Moonraker) yet in the collection I would want them to be sorted by the year so they would be in the order that they were released. Â You can use the sort order field to do this on movies that have the same first name of the title but I don't want to list all of the Bond movies as "James Bond......." under the main library.
+1 to being able to sort Collections differently than the All Movies list.
This is a great idea and here is my two cents on it. I like looking at my movies in alphabetical order but when i want to look at a collection i would rather look at them in the order of their events, not by the year they were released.Â
Two examples of this would be Star Wars and X-Men.
To me it would be the addition of 1 field in the meta data. "Order in Collection" or "Number in Collection" - In here you would just put a number as to where it falls in place in a collection. Then movies with collections of 7+ you could organize them however you want within the collection without having to mess with sort title (To me that is used for alphabetical sorting). In my case i would organize them not by year but by what is actually the correct order of events in the movies.
To expand upon my reply. For collections that belong to more then 1 collection maybe you would actually tie the "Number in Collection" field to each collection listed.
RockStar game the example of Freddy vs Jason. So for movies like this you would list both of their collections like you can now and then pick one of the collections and set it "Number in Collection." Then you could pick the other collection it belonged to and pick a different "Number in Collection" number for it.
This does at to the database and programming complexity but it makes it a lot more flexible. And based on Plex this seems as though it would be an easy task.
+1 for an order by followed by a then by

Idk if this thread is even looked at anymore but it’d really help
@js71700 – you can already do this (by now).
When editing a collection via Plex Web you can change the sort order for this collection in the “advanced” section of the dialog:
